The IT Systems & Support Administrator plays a critical, hands-on role in ensuring the stable, secure, and efficient operation of all technology infrastructure and providing responsive support to students, faculty, and staff in a small K-12 independent school environment. This position manages the daily technical operations and end-user submitted trouble tickets, maintains the network and server environment, administers educational and administrative systems, and builds an alliance with the Technology Integration Specialist to successfully blend technology into teaching and learning. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to supporting the school's overall strategic plan and mission. Key Responsibilities Technical Support and Operations • Help Desk & Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary point of contact for all technology-related issues for students, faculty, and staff. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware (laptops, Chromebooks, projectors, printers, etc.) and software problems in a timely manner. • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support (help desk) for all hardware (laptops, desktops, projectors, printers, mobile devices) and software issues for students, faculty, and staff. • Manage the inventory, deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle of all school-owned technology assets (e.g., Mac, PC, Chromebook, iPad fleets). • Manage and troubleshoot classroom and meeting technology, including interactive displays, A/V systems, and video conferencing equipment. • Document and manage trouble/support tickets, systems configurations, processes, troubleshooting steps, and policies. • Network Management: Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of the school's network infrastructure (LAN, WLAN, Internet access, and security). • Account Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access for various school systems (e.g., Google Workspace/Microsoft 365, Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems). • Hardware & Software Inventory: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all technology equipment, software licenses, and warranties. • Data Security & Backups: Ensure regular data backups are performed and assist in implementing and enforcing data security and acceptable use policies to protect school data and student privacy (e.g., FERPA compliance). • Procurement: Research, recommend, and assist with the purchasing of new technology hardware and software, ensuring compatibility, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with the school's technology plan. System and Network Administration • Manage, monitor, and maintain all end-user devices, network infrastructure, including Wi-Fi access points, switches, firewalls, and facility management systems. • Administer, configure, and secure server environments (physical and virtual), operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS), and cloud services (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, AWS). • Ensure data integrity through regular backup and disaster recovery planning and testing. • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across all systems and platforms, following best practices for cybersecurity. • Implement and maintain security protocols, including antivirus software, content filtering, and network access control. Planning and Leadership • Technology Plan: Participate in the development and ongoing review of the school's long-range technology plan. • Coordination: Act as a liaison with external vendors and technical support services. • Documentation: Create and maintain clear technical documentation, user guides, and training materials. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR equivalent professional experience and certifications. • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience providing technical support, preferably in a K-12 or educational environment. • Demonstrated proficiency with hardware/OS systems, including Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS (Chromebooks/Laptops). • 3+ years of experience in network administration, systems management, or a similar technical support role. • Demonstrated proficiency in: • Network technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, Wi-Fi configuration). • Server administration (Windows Server and/or virtualization platforms). • Cloud-based productivity suites (Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365). • Endpoint management and help desk support. • Knowledge of common educational software and platforms (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, Student Information Systems, Learning Management Systems). • Very strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users of all ages. • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. • Patience, customer service orientation, and a desire to support the educational mission of the school. Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of common educational software and platforms (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, Student Information Systems, Learning Management Systems). • Experience working in an educational or non-profit setting, particularly with a 1:1 or managed device program. • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure/365 Administrator). Physical Requirements The role may require the ability to: • Periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the school campus for extended periods. • Lift and move up to 40 pounds (e.g., computers, printers, networking equipment). • Crawl, kneel, stoop, and climb ladders to install or repair equipment and cabling. • Travel occasionally between school buildings or to professional development events.
