Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Merchandising to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail merchandising; cannabis industry experience is not necessary. This role will be responsible for developing and executing merchandising strategies that drive sales, enhance customer experience, and ensure product compliance. Additionally, the individual must be hands-on, data-driven and detail-oriented to support analytical strategy work to support decision making in product assortment, pricing, promotions, and inventory optimization. This role will work cross-functionally with merchandising, retail, marketing, and operations teams to generate insights that drive sales, margin, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with an understanding of retail merchandising dynamics—preferably in regulated or highly competitive industries. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and implement merchandising strategies to maximize sales and profitability. • Oversee product selection, pricing, and inventory management. • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to create promotional campaigns. • Ensure compliance with state and local regulations regarding cannabis products. • Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers. • Analyze product performance, category trends, and customer purchasing behavior to inform assortment and pricing decisions. • Partner with the merchandising and procurement teams to develop data-driven strategies for product selection, promotions, and inventory allocation. • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools (using Excel, Power BI or similar) to track KPIs such as sell-through, turns, margin, and stock-outs. • Provide pre- and post-analysis of promotions and campaigns to assess ROI and effectiveness. • Support new product launches with data modeling, forecasts, and scenario planning. • Collaborate with inventory planners and retail teams to align on stock levels, replenishment cycles, and space planning. • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify emerging trends and pricing opportunities. • Ensure data accuracy and integrity in reporting systems, working closely with the Finance team. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or related field (Master’s a plus). • Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail merchandising, merchandising analytics, retail planning, category management. • Experience in the cannabis, CPG, or specialty retail industry preferred. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and BI tools (e.g., Power BI). • Understanding of merchandising metrics and retail financials (sales, gross margin, inventory turns, etc.). • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a strong business acumen. • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations. • Familiarity with cannabis retail compliance and SKU complexity (flower, concentrates, edibles, etc.). • Experience working with POS and ERP systems such as Dutchie, BioTrack, or similar. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. • Proficiency in merchandising software and tools. • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with data warehouses is a plus.
