About Us We are a Boston metro area, U.S.-based software development and hosting company that supports a portfolio of custom web and enterprise applications. Many of our client environments are mission-critical or near-mission-critical, requiring high reliability and timely support. We maintain our own VMware-based infrastructure, network, and VMs, and are seeking an experienced IT professional or small firm to work with our existing implementation team as well as to provide part-time system administration and on-call support. What You’ll Do • Manage and maintain a VMware vSphere environment (via vCenter) hosting Linux and Windows Server VMs • Set up and configure new VMs, including network and security settings • Administer Cisco FPR 1120 firewall and support network security best practices • Monitor and optimize VM and network performance • Troubleshoot issues across OS, networking, and application layers • Support software stack operations (e.g., PHP/Laravel applications, Microsoft SQL Server, Zimbra mail server, Veeam backup, VPN tunnels, and Symmetric DDS replication) • Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth deployment and integration of software with IT infrastructure • Provide very occasional after-hours “on call” coverage for urgent incidents What We’re Looking For • Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience as a systems administrator, IT consultant, or with a boutique IT firm • Deep knowledge of Linux / LAMP OS, MS SQL, VMware vSphere/vCenter and Cisco firewalls • Strong Linux and Windows Server administration experience • Proficiency with Veeam, SQL Server, mail servers, and VPNs • Experience supporting software developers and hybrid environments • Clear communicator, responsive, and reliable under pressure • Based in North America or Europe (NATO member countries only), with availability during U.S. East Coast (EST) business hours • Either a solo consultant with multiple clients or a small firm with a few senior sysadmins • Certifications (VMware VCP, Cisco CCNP, Veeam VMCE) are a strong plus Engagement Model • Part-time, remote, hourly engagement with flexible scheduling • Occasional on-call support for critical incidents paired with monthly retainer If you are a highly capable independent sysadmin that works with our own clients, or a member of a boutique IT firm seeking long-term collaboration with a growing software development business, we’d love to hear from you.
