A Brief Overview The Patient Education Systems Administrator is responsible for leading, implementing, executing, and evaluating the organizational digital patient education system. This leader takes strategic direction from the Digital Education Steering Team and promotes the plan across the enterprise. This includes collaborating with clinicians to identify patient education topics in patient populations and developing patient education programs to address needs. Establishes standards and templates for patient education materials and influences how patient education is executed across the enterprise. Leads the Patient Education Governance group to manage requests for custom content. Essential Functions Collaborates with the Digital Patient Education Steering Team to establish templates and processes for the digital patient education system. • Executes the strategic plan set by the steering team and influences how patient education is delivered across the enterprise. • Uses strategic input to impact the direction and resource allocation for programs, projects, or services. • Uses critical thinking to create business plans, policies, and procedures applicable at the system level. • Develops standards for multimodal patient education materials (print, video, web-based) • Ensures content meets principles for diversity and inclusion along with cultural needs where appropriate. • Incorporates health literacy concepts into process. • Establishes a process to ensure content is evidence-based and medically accurate. • Responsible for identifying innovative patient education technology for evaluation by steering committee Digital Patient Education Program: • Develops patient education programs through consultation with clinicians and family input from appropriate channels. ▪ Identifies best practices and leads the development of health education pathways for common high-risk health topics. ▪ Uses innovative technology to deliver patient education materials to our patients/families in a way that is highly engaging. ▪ Ensures that the patient experience is the driving force behind decisions and activities. ▪ Oversees the development of written health education materials. • Leads process improvements for the patient education system to achieve goals beyond what is required. ▪ Conducts regular process and product evaluation with stakeholders to ensure desired outcomes. ▪ Identifies and seeks to understand issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions. Takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences. ▪ Collaborates with customers on developing solutions to address issues. ▪ Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections, and persuades others to adopt a different point of view; works on cross functional teams. ▪ Effectively incorporates change management principles into the implementation process. • Identifies learning opportunities and provides training to hospital personnel focused on improved patient education for a positive discharge experience. • Incorporates adult learning principles into education. ▪ Collaborates with clinical education team to manage timelines for desired education Collaborates with appropriate IT and digital health leaders to manage vendor relations and portals for external patient education content • Ensures content updates from vendor are incorporated into the patient education system • Collaborates with vendor on problem solving when appropriate. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree In nursing from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience Required and Graduate degree or professional work experience Preferred Experience Qualifications Minimum five (5) years’ experience in healthcare Required and Pediatric healthcare experience Preferred and At least 2 years of project or people leadership experience Preferred and At least 1 year of patient education and health literacy experience Preferred Skills and Abilities Strong healthcare clinical knowledge and background. Pediatric experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include use of computer technology in program presentations and/or data analysis. Exhibits good judgement and ability to make decisions in a timely manner. Exhibits ability to set timelines and meet deadlines Uses stellar problem-solving skills and ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis. Able to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented. Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word formatting and graphics, PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheet programming, all of which may be necessary for the creation of business documents. Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.
