The role builds forms, reports, queries, and automations (VBA/macros) while integrating with enterprise databases (primarily SQL Server; coordination with Oracle and DBA teams as needed). Emphasis on maintainable code, data integrity, and performance. Core Scope of Work Enhance and support MS Access front-ends (forms, reports, queries, VBA) connected to SQL Server/Oracle back-ends. Build T-SQL objects (views, stored procedures, functions) and optimize queries used by Access and reporting tools. Partner with DBAs and app owners to ensure reliability, security, and adherence to release/change processes. Primary Responsibilities Develop and maintain Access applications (ACCDB/ACCDE), including VBA modules, macros, and error handling. Design and optimize T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and user-defined functions to support business workflows. Configure and maintain linked tables/ODBC connections; manage schema changes and backward compatibility. Implement data validation and quality controls (constraints, checks, referential integrity) across front-end and database layers. Package and deploy versioned releases; follow CI/CD and change-control practices appropriate for data/application code. Produce and maintain technical documentation (ERDs, data dictionaries, deployment/runbooks). Support incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-change verification for Access/SQL solutions. Collaborate with DBAs on indexing, statistics, and performance tuning; coordinate with security for least-privilege access. Minimum Qualifications (Required) Proficiency building MS Access solutions: forms, reports, advanced queries, and VBA. Solid SQL skills with hands-on T-SQL development (views, stored procedures, functions). Experience integrating Access with SQL Server (and familiarity connecting to Oracle). Understanding of data modeling basics (3NF/Star where appropriate for reporting). Familiarity with release/change management, source control, and code review practices. Strong documentation habits and collaborative communication with DBAs/app teams. Preferred (Optional - include only if allowed) Experience migrating legacy Access tables to SQL Server while retaining Access as a front-end. Exposure to job scheduling/orchestration for data refreshes feeding Access solutions. Knowledge of reporting/BI tools (e.g., SSRS/Power BI) consuming the same SQL layer. Scripting for automation (PowerShell/shell) and basic JSON/CSV data handling. Success Metrics / KPIs Release/Job success &Client; 99% for Access/SQL deliverables and scheduled refreshes. SLA adherence for incident response and change windows. Query performance baselines maintained or improved for key Access-backed workflows. Data integrity: zero critical defects from referential/validation failures in production. User acceptance: on-time delivery with approved UAT sign-off. Deliverables Version-controlled Access application package(s) and SQL source (views/procs/functions). ERD diagrams, data dictionaries, and deployment/runbooks (including ODBC/linked- table steps). Data validation/quality checklists with test results. KPI reports demonstrating job success, SLA adherence, and performance baseline status.
