The Systems Administrator II at Shelby County Government is responsible for managing and supporting large-scale network server environments. This role involves project management, network administration, and ensuring the effective implementation of network technologies.
Position Summary The Systems Administrator II works under the direct supervision of a System Administrator III – Core Services and assists with project management and reporting for network administration-related initiatives, as well as the planning, design, implementation, and management of all County network server and network directory services technologies. Pay Grade: 55 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications 1. Three (3) years’ experience in planning, configuring, deploying, and supporting large-scale network server environments; AND 2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field; OR 3. An equivalent combination of related education, and/or experience. 4. Microsoft or equivalent network certification and experience in large-scale network server design, implementation, and support strategies are preferred. 5. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Plans and leads complex network server projects from inception to completion. 2. Assists in establishing, reviewing, and updating standards and procedures to support timely and effective project work. 3. Performs R&D activities on new and evolving network server technologies. 4. Administration support of network system software and periodic updates, including MS Server, MS Active Directory Services, MS Exchange, MS IIS, MS SQL Server, Anti-virus, and associated security systems and applications. 5. Assists in development and administration of standards and procedures associated with the implementation and support of network server technologies, to include best practices for high availability, backup, security, and reporting. 6. Uses advanced tools in problem analysis and performance evaluations. 7. Assists in future needs analysis for acquisition. 8. Assists in presenting to management recommendations related to purchasing and installing hardware, software, and network server technologies. 9. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSAs 1. Skilled in project planning, design, and implementation of large-scale network server solutions. 2. Skilled in the use of project management and server resource management tools. 3. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects with varying priorities. 4. Skilled in complex problem solving in large-scale network server environments. 5. High level of knowledge and experience with enterprise-wide network server and directory services technologies, especially Microsoft Server 2003 – 2008 R2, Microsoft AD, LDAP, SMTP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, etc. 6. Skilled in Disaster Preparedness planning, and configuration and support of highly available network resource technologies (Clustering, VMware, SAN, NAS, etc.). 7. Skilled in the planning, configuration, and support of network security technologies (Certificates, Anti-virus, Web & Email Filtering, etc.). 8. High-level ability to communicate both orally and in writing. 9. Skilled in maintaining network server and service reference documentation. 10. Ability to interpret flow charts, block diagrams, and related material; and to conduct program tests. 11. Ability to establish and maintain production and quality control in reference to computer and network operations. 12. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. 13. Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence. 14. Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills in all work efforts with customers, management, and co-workers.
