The Systems Administrator at S & B Engineers and Constructors is responsible for managing and maintaining system servers and application components in a Houston-based office. This role requires strong technical skills and a commitment to ensuring operational efficiency and user satisfaction.
OVERVIEW Under some supervision the Systems Administrator is responsible for analyzing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing system servers and application components. In this role you will perform a variety of tasks including installation, evaluation, configuration and upgrading of servers and maintenance of related hardware to meet company performance and user satisfaction criteria. You must be able to recognize potential issues within the system, make recommendations and implement solutions for improvement. You will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems and related procedures adhere to organizational values and performance needs. You must be able to work with IT management in planning, purchasing and implementation, but also with support team when issues are escalated. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None. EDUCATION Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, will consider equivalent relevant work experience and/or education. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Requires minimum of 5 years of experience in administration and support of an enterprise environment. • Familiarity of Windows Server 2016 or above including Active Directory, File and Print services, and Group Policy. • Experience with Active Directory user provisioning and management. • Familiarity with system / network logging, monitoring, and alerting. • A general understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts, including principles of routing, bridging and switching, and network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, IPsec, NFS, SMB and iSCSI). • Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management including system configuration, production system patching, and auditing of system / network changes • Experience with backup hardware and software, specifically with CommVault, Cohesity and Druva preferred • An understanding of virtualization solutions such as VMWare. • An understanding file, block, and object storage. • Experience with Microsoft Exchange or Exchange Online administration and security. • Ability to work as an effective member in a team environment. Strong customer service skills. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Under supervision, ensures continuity, security, and operational efficiency of the server operating environment. • Performs hardware and/or software installations, upgrades, and maintenance tasks which may require availability after regular business hours. • Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves server hardware and software problems. • Performs provisioning and modification of user accounts. • Performs regular backup and recovery tasks. • Participates in change control. • Assists in the development and testing of IT disaster recovery plan. • After hour response to position related emergencies. • Other job-related duties as assigned. • Manage outside vendors technicians. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical systems documentation. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Basic mathematical and algebraic equations required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes. This requires the ability to stand, walk, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.
