Lumatrak is seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Database Administrator to enhance their data infrastructure, focusing on Azure SQL Database and SQL Server. The role requires extensive experience in performance monitoring, database design, and automation.
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and collaborate closely with our Senior Data Architect to support and enhance our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Azure SQL Database, SQL Server, and related Azure services, with proven expertise in performance monitoring and tuning, database design, scalability, automation, and security. This role requires a deep, hands-on understanding of native SQL Server internals and functionality. Candidates who rely primarily on third-party tools (e.g., Spark, SQL Sentry, Python) for day-to-day DBA tasks will not be a fit. Instead, we’re seeking someone who can confidently apply in-depth knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization without heavy dependence on external platforms. Key Responsibilities • Administer and maintain Azure SQL Database. • Monitor performance and troubleshoot slow-running queries, deadlocks, and resource bottlenecks. • Automate routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or Azure Automation. • Implement and manage security, compliance, and auditing across Azure SQL environments. • Assist development teams with database design, index tuning, and query optimization. • Collaborate with development and management teams daily. Required Qualifications • Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, ideally with at least 2 years in Azure SQL. • Proficient in T-SQL, query tuning, and index optimization. • Scripting skills in PowerShell or Azure CLI. • Ability to learn and engage new SQL Server technologies to address business needs when appropriate. • Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete them within the requested deadline. • Excellent documentation, communication, and analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Diagnostic Settings. • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines for schema deployment and database versioning. • Exposure to AI and machine learning workloads, including supporting model training or analytics in a cloud environment is a plus. • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related discipline. Will also consider years of proven experience in place of degree. • Experience with C#, Azure Functions, CI/CD, DataDog is a plus.
