Lighthouse is seeking a Data Scientist Intern to join our Product Development team in building the next generation of eDiscovery intelligence products. In this role, you will develop highly accurate data models that drive predictability, deliver insights, and enhance business analytics. You will contribute to engineering highly available and scalable systems for real-time and near real-time analytics, leveraging both new and existing NLP and document classification technologies. If you enjoy working in an agile, collaborative environment, solving complex problems, and applying advanced machine learning and statistical techniques to deliver actionable insights, this internship is for you. What will this person do? • Work 25–40 hours per week supporting the Data Science team in designing, prototyping, and testing scalable machine learning techniques for classification, recognition, matching, and attribute extraction to solve key business problems. • Select and apply appropriate statistical and machine learning algorithms to address diverse data challenges while ensuring data security and privacy. • Translate business opportunities into data science solutions by applying mathematical and statistical techniques to available datasets. • Support client facing solution developers with issue resolution. It would also be great if you had the following: • Experience developing and implementing ML/AI models using programming or scripting languages (Python strongly preferred; hands-on familiarity with one or more of these: Spark, Scala, Databricks, MLFlow is a plus) • Hands-on familiarity with one or more cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data using industry-standard toolsets (e.g., SQL Python Libraries for data analysis exploration and visualization e.g., Pandas, and SQL variants) • Experience using modern AI tools for software development (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.) • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a program in data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field • Familiarity with software engineering principles such as testing at scale, CI/CD, and Agile development practices. • Understanding of the fundamentals of machine learning, generative AI, multi-modal data analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling, with exposure to applying these methods to real-world problems • Motivated to learn from peers and seniors and follow industry trends. Having an experimentation mindset. • Willingness to take on solving new challenges, presentation skills to deliver insights succinctly. Work Environment and Physical Demands • Duties are performed in a typical office environment while at a desk or computer table. • Duties require the ability to use a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material, in a quiet and professional setting. • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). The salary range for this position may be tailored to be lower or higher in different talent markets.
