Job ID 59649 Location Professional & Supervisory Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular ABOUT THIS POSITION The Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. It is a city department of over 500 employees across four main Divisions: Management Services, Planning, Historic Preservation, and Development. The Planning and Development General Inspections Team Leader position supervises both a residential inspections team and a non-permitted construction inspection team plan review team. The General Inspections Team Leader will be responsible for providing oversight and direction for all assigned residential development projects and non-permitted construction projects, both commercial and residential, from beginning to completion. This role requires advanced project management skills to navigate complex construction efforts that involve interdisciplinary collaboration and interdepartmental project review. The General Inspections Team Leader supervises both technical and administrative personnel and must possess a comprehensive understanding of the development process, including land development, site planning, zoning regulations, building codes, and departmental policies and procedures. Regular interaction with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, city officials, and community members is a key aspect of this position. IDEAL CANDIDATE • Knowledge of International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), and National Electrical Code (NEC) Construction Codes. • Ability to work collaboratively across departments to support development projects. • Proven ability to lead projects effectively and facilitate production. • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders. • Advance proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). SALARY Pay Range & Hiring Range: $107,806.40 to $144,476.80 annually. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: • Experience working with the Phoenix Building Construction Code, Phoenix Zoning Ordinance and Phoenix City Code. • International Code Council (ICC), Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (IAEI), and/or International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) Certifications. • Experience working in a professional level supervisor role. • Experience using ShapePhx and Kiva Software Systems. • Additional training classes or seminars related to building codes.
