Required Hours/Week: 40hrs./Week Note: • Need Local Candidates Job Summary: • The SQL Server and Database Administrator will provide database support and SQL Server administration for key applications, including eGrants, CFRS, EDC, TIMS, PERMS, NPIS, CFRS Data Mart, and PIMS PS Schema. • Responsibilities include database design, implementation, performance tuning, data migration, security, and integrity. • The role requires independent work as well as collaboration with DBAs, developers, and IT teams. Key Responsibilities: Database Administration & Support: • Manage Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019 databases, including installation, configuration, and upgrades. • Design, implement, and maintain physical database structures for assigned applications. • Perform data analysis, correction, migration, and loading between database structures. • Monitor and optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements. • Ensure database security, integrity, and compliance with PDE standards. • Assist in backup, recovery, and disaster preparedness procedures. • Support conversions from older SQL versions to current releases. Development & Automation: • Review, migrate, and optimize stored procedures, functions, and queries. • Develop and maintain SSIS packages and PowerShell scripts for automation. • Assist in application development lifecycle, including schema changes and deployments. Collaboration & Communication: • Work with developers, analysts, and infrastructure teams to resolve database-related issues. • Provide accurate status updates to the Database Administration Section Chief and project leads. • Represent the DBA team in meetings as needed. • Document processes and maintain version control in Azure DevOps. Leadership & Continuous Improvement: • Serve as backup to the Database Administration Section Chief when required. • Research and recommend new SQL Server features, tools, and best practices. • Propose improvements to database administration policies and procedures. Required Skills & Qualifications: Technical Expertise: • Strong experience with SQL Server 2016/2019 (installation, configuration, tuning). • Proficiency in T-SQL, SSIS, PowerShell, and database modeling. • Knowledge of backup/recovery, security, and high availability (HA) solutions. • Familiarity with Azure DevOps (or similar tools) for source control and task tracking. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: • Ability to diagnose performance bottlenecks and optimize queries. • Experience in data migration, ETL processes, and troubleshooting data issues. Soft Skills: • Strong written and verbal communication. • Ability to work independently and in a team. • Effective time management and task prioritization. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS). • Knowledge of data warehousing and reporting tools (SSRS, Power BI). • Previous work in government or education-sector databases.
