About Nauticus Established in 1994, Nauticus is a maritime discovery center that hosts 350,000 visitors annually and is home to the Nauticus Museum, Sail Nauticus sailing center, Schooner Virginia, the Battleship Wisconsin and the Half Moone Cruise Terminal Center. Nauticus’ mission is to benefit the community through education, impactful experiences and by sharing access to maritime resources. The Role The Group Sales Manager is a full-time position responsible for hitting an established sales goal and driving group sales revenue by targeting various group segments, including but not limited to travel and tourism, military, student, and corporate groups. The Group Sales Manager is responsible for prospecting, selling and booking impactful group visits at Nauticus. This position seeks potential clients through networking, soliciting, and grass roots marketing and sales strategies. This role also provides administrative and occasional onsite support to the event team to ensure seamless execution of events on campus. The Group Sales Manager reports to the Director of Events and Sales and works with the Senior Sales Manager and is part of the Event and Sales Department. Salary: $55,000-$62,000 based on experience Duties & Responsibilities: • Develop and implement sales strategies to attract and prospect new group clients and retain existing ones. • Identify and target potential group sales opportunities through market research and networking. • Manage group sales accounts, including rate negotiations, booking confirmations, and payment processing. • Utilize software Altru to finalize and track group sale details, costs and client payments. • Collaboration with local partners such as Visit Norfolk, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Norfolk Council, and other associations to increase bookings. Participate in FAM tours as necessary. • Work with the marketing team to develop promotional collateral and campaigns targeting group sales. • Provide prompt client communication while maintaining professional and first-class customer service. • Track and report on group sales performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement. • Analyze market trends and competitor activities to stay ahead in the industry. • Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to promote group offerings. • Assist Event Team with administrative tasks as needed • Assist Event Team onsite with event duties as needed Qualifications and Requirements: • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in group or B2B sales, preferably in tourism, hospitality, or cultural institutions • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Hospitality, or a related field • Strong organizational and multitasking skills • Familiarity with effective marketing strategies and proactive efforts to generate new client business • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Work independently and as part of a team • Able to meet and exceed sales goals • Able to forecast sales and help Director to budget accordingly • Strong networking skills with a track-record of building and fostering positive client relationships • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software, Altru experience is a plus • Must possess a valid driver’s license • A flexible schedule is required as the position may be required to work some early mornings, weekend days, holidays and evenings as needed for various groups or events • Working Environment This is an office-based position with occasional physical requirements for events, programs, etc. (Must have ability to lift 30 lbs.) Work week can vary depending on group and event schedule and may require occasional morning, evening, holiday and weekend work. Requires some travel for sales meetings and industry events as needed.
