The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is the state agency that is responsible for the planning, designing, construction, maintenance and operations of the surface transportation infrastructure and associated systems and services in New Mexico with the exception of those that are the responsibility of local entities (counties and municipalities). The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Bureau utilizes data, information and advanced communications technologies to facilitate the safer and more efficient operations of that surface transportation infrastructure. Why does the job exist? This position exists to support the Department's compliance with federal requirements associated with collecting/sharing/reporting/disseminating of information on road and travel conditions in real time to the affected transportation stakeholders. In order to meet these requirements various application and systems are needed. This position is responsible for the operations/maintenance/management/repair/replacement/implementation/integration/deployment/design of those applications and systems. How does it get done? The key responsibilities are: -Monitoring functionality of ITS field devices, equipment and supported applications and when needed perform corrective action. -Monitoring functionality of ITS network (field and support) and when needed perform corrective action-Operating environment software upgrades and controls-Infrastructure maintenance and protection. -ITS Maintenance and Construction Contractor management Who are the customers? The customers of NMDOT-ITS are both internal (the NMDOT Districts [Traffic Operations, Maintenance Operations and Public Information Outreach], Planning, Design and Construction Divisions) and external (response and enforcement agencies, local entities, traveling public, third party information providers, .....). The information and services that NMDOT-ITS Operations collect, disseminate and provide are used in the operational support during incident responses, inclement weather occurrences, special events, maintenance activities and construction and work zone management. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas: • The ideal candidate will have an advanced working knowledge with at least 5 years of experience in the implementation, operations and maintenance of network support and applications that are specific to intelligent transportation systems. • The ideal candidate will be proficient in the advanced techniques of system and application failure analyses along with associated corrective measures. • The ideal candidate will have strong documentation skills along with a demonstrated ability of being able to work both independently as well as contributing and cooperating in a collaborative team environment. • The ideal candidate shall have a strong working knowledge of fiber optics communication systems and the associated operations and maintenance of supporting applications in the management of data and information used for intelligent transportation systems including but not limited to video systems, messaging systems, truck parking systems, weather systems, variable speed systems, alert warning systems, field controllers, switches, and modems as well as having an electrical journeyman's license. • Ideal candidate should have a mastery of the Microsoft suite of applications as well as specific network management applications deemed necessary to perform the duties of this position's responsibilities. Minimum Qualification Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, or network administration.
