Position Title: Junior Database Administrator Location: Queens, NY Position Status: Contract Position Description: Join a mission-driven initiative to modernize legacy data systems in New York City. We’re seeking a Junior Database Administrator to support a large-scale data modernization effort that will transform how data is collected, stored, processed, and analyzed. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to ensure high-performance, secure, and scalable database environments. You’ll also manage installations, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high availability solutions across platforms like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Key Responsibilities: • Database Installation & Configuration: Deploy, upgrade, and configure database systems and tools • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Analyze and optimize queries, indexes, and schema design • Backup & Recovery: Implement and test robust backup strategies to ensure data integrity • Security Management: Enforce access controls, encryption, and auditing policies • Troubleshooting & Support: Resolve complex issues and support development teams • Maintenance & Monitoring: Conduct patching, space management, and health checks • High Availability: Manage replication, clustering, and failover solutions • Capacity Planning: Monitor usage trends and forecast future resource needs • Documentation: Maintain clear records of configurations and procedures • Collaboration: Partner with developers, sysadmins, and infrastructure teams Required Skills/Education: • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience • Experience: 2+ years as a Database Administrator in a production environment Technical Proficiency: • Experience in SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL • Strong command of SQL and scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, Bash • Experience with backup/recovery tools, performance tuning, and monitoring systems • Knowledge of database security best practices • Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux environments • Exposure to Azure cloud infrastructure is a strong plus About Seneca Resources At Seneca Resources, we are more than just a staffing and consulting firm, we are a trusted career partner.
