PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of the Business Intelligence (BI) Developer classification is to support the County's data-driven decision-making processes by designing, developing, and maintaining advanced business intelligence solutions. This role is crucial in transforming raw data into meaningful insights through the creation of interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations. The BI Developer works closely with various departments to understand their data needs, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of data. By leveraging their technical expertise in BI tools, SQL, and data warehousing, the BI Developer enables the organization to make informed strategic decisions, optimize operations, and drive business growth. In the realm of data analysis and reporting, the BI Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BI solutions such as dashboards, reports, and data visualizations. Gather and analyze business requirements to create robust data models and reporting solutions while developing and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to guarantee data integrity and consistency. Designs and implements database structures, including tables, views, and indexes, optimizing database performance to ensure data accuracy and reliability. They also perform data cleansing and transformation to prepare data for analysis. Collaboration and communication are key aspects of this role, requiring the BI Developer to work closely with business stakeholders such as division managers, IT Business Systems Administrators, C-Suite executives, directors and elected officials to understand their needs and provide actionable insights. Coordinate with IT and other departments to ensure seamless data integration and consistency, presenting findings and recommendations to management and other stakeholders effectively. Technical expertise is essential, as the BI Developer utilizes BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, or similar platforms to create interactive and user-friendly reports. Write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from various sources and stay updated with the latest BI technologies and best practices to continuously improve BI solutions. Additionally, the BI Developer documents BI processes, data models, and reporting solutions for future reference, provides training and support to end-users to ensure effective use of BI tools and reports, and troubleshoots and resolves BI-related issues promptly. The BI Developer is also instrumental in creating applications that facilitate data-driven decision-making within the organization. They design and develop customized applications that integrate with existing BI tools, ensuring a seamless user experience and enhancing the accessibility of data insights. By leveraging programming skills and knowledge of platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, and ESRI Insights, the BI Developer creates applications that automate data retrieval and reporting processes, streamlining operations and improving efficiency. These applications are tailored to meet the specific needs of different departments, providing users with intuitive interfaces to interact with data, generate reports, and visualize key metrics. The BI Developer continuously refines and updates these applications to incorporate new features, improve functionality, and align with the latest technological advancements, ensuring that the organization's BI capabilities remain cutting-edge and highly effective. The Business Intelligence Developer communicates with the Chief Information Officer, employees, users, other departments, county officials, vendors, consultants, technical experts, other government agencies, the public, and other relevant parties as necessary to coordinate work activities, review work status, exchange information, resolve issues, and provide or receive advice and direction. They stay updated on new products, trends, and advancements in the field by reading professional literature and participating in classes, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or a related field is required. Candidates must have proven experience as a BI Developer or in a similar role, showcasing strong proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, ESRI Insights, and QlikView. Excellent SQL skills and experience with relational databases like SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL are essential. The ideal candidate should be familiar with ETL processes and data warehousing concepts, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Experience with programming languages such as Python or R, as well as knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, are advantageous. Additionally, candidates should have training that includes progressively responsible computer programming, systems analysis, project management, and supervision, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required, and candidates must provide and maintain a personal vehicle for transportation to other departments.
