Disaster Recovery Specialist • Hybrid (3 days on site in Washington DC) • visa: and usc • moi: onsite About the Position / Responsibilities We are looking for a Disaster Recovery Specialist with deep expertise in VMWare environments and Microsoft Azure (preferably Government Cloud) services, including IaaS, PaaS, database platforms, and Kubernetes. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Strategy & Planning Perform risk evaluations and business impact studies to pinpoint weaknesses in essential business operations. Propose and implement strategies to prevent disasters and minimize their impact. Collaborate with IT and key stakeholders to assess how hardware or software changes may influence disaster recovery outcomes. Lead and coordinate the development of department-specific disaster recovery strategies. Stay informed on new technologies, services, and standards to support contingency planning initiatives. Requisition & Deployment Engage with vendors, contractors, and service providers to secure disaster recovery tools and services. Install and evaluate new disaster recovery tools and technologies. Recommend and, when needed, schedule and implement security upgrades, enhancements, or acquisitions. Operational Management Design and implement recovery procedures to restore critical business systems during outages caused by natural disasters, technical issues, or human error. Oversee the execution of recovery plans, including emergency response, recovery steps, and business continuity processes. Develop, enforce, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity policies and procedures aligned with industry best practices. Educate staff on their roles in emergency response and continuity planning. Ensure all systems, equipment, and facilities comply with disaster recovery protocols. Safeguard essential data and media through consistent backup and storage practices. Regularly simulate disruptions to test and refine recovery plans. Evaluate and apply necessary security changes to maintain system integrity. Recommend and apply patches, fixes, and other measures to address disruptions. Identify and secure off-site data storage and backup locations. Monitor and respond to emerging security threats and alerts. Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members. ________________________________________ Required Qualifications At least 3 years of experience designing and managing public or government cloud solutions, with a focus on Microsoft Azure (Gov preferred), including IaaS, PaaS, database services, and Kubernetes. Minimum 3 years of experience in IT administration or engineering, managing both Windows and Linux servers and services. Strong practical knowledge of disaster recovery planning and widely accepted industry practices. Comprehensive understanding of various disaster types and their potential impact on IT infrastructure. Proficient in current systems software, hardware, protocols, and standards. Solid grasp of network protocols and administration. Proven project management capabilities and familiarity with data privacy and protection regulations. Advanced technical architecture skills, with experience designing scalable, global solutions and migrating applications from on-premises VMware to Azure (preferably Gov Cloud). Understanding of network technologies in the context of AWS. Familiarity with cloud security services, including network and data protection, and security event management. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to research and evaluate recovery and security tools and solutions. Clear understanding of organizational goals and how IT supports them. Self-driven and highly organized. Capable of managing multiple priorities effectively in high-pressure situations. ________________________________________ Education Master s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, or a Bachelor s degree combined with at least 10 years of relevant experience. Certification in Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning (DR/BCP Certification) required
