Senior Network Systems Engineer We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Network Systems Engineer to join our dynamic global network team based in our Durham, North Carolina location. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in enterprise network architecture, security operations, and software development coding. Summary: You will play a critical role in modernizing our global enterprise network infrastructure with a focus on security, performance, and automation—including cloud, colocation, and edge environments. In this role, you will also be responsible for leading network and security initiatives across our global operations, ensuring consistent standards, robust protection, and high availability throughout our infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Design, deploy, and manage scalable and secure network infrastructure across the Macom global sites, cloud, colocation, and edge computing environments. Design and maintain optimal routing architectures, with a focus on BGP and other dynamic routing protocols. Lead security design and operations related to micro-segmentation, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDP/IPS) and 802.1X Network Access Control (NAC) solutions. Develop and maintain network automation scripts using Python. Contribute to the adoption and integration of innovative technologies including open-source networking, Artificial Intelligence, and automation capabilities Manage and optimize core network services including IPAM, DNS, DHCP, and NTP. Implement and manage network observability tools to monitor performance and availability. Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for network incidents. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing and development. Ensure compliance with industry security standards and internal policies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and end users to support infrastructure needs and project delivery. Required Skills & Qualifications: 8+ years of experience in network engineering or a related field. Strong background in security design and operations, including firewalls, IDP/IPS, load balancers, and 802.1X NAC. In depth knowledge in TCP/IP, VXLAN/EVPN Strong knowledge of network security compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CMMC, PCI-DSS). Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation. Experience with network observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, NetBox, DataDog, Zabbix). Hands-on experience with open-source SONiC and white-box networking. Deep understanding of routing protocols, especially BGP, OSPF, and related technologies. Experience managing IPAM, DNS, DHCP, and NTP services. Familiarity with enterprise wireless networking technologies and best practices. Proven experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP), colocation facilities, and edge computing architectures. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
