UTHealth Houston is seeking a Systems Administrator to join the Database & Application Support team within DCO. This team focuses on the design, implementation, and support of clinical, enterprise, and departmental-level application systems. Primary responsibilities include server and database administration, cloud operational support, content management system administration, application systems and support, systems integration and automation, business intelligence, and working closely with application owners to assist with performance tuning, troubleshooting installations, and upgrades. About our Data Center Operations: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System. Data Center Operations (DCO), under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHealth Houston, operates the university’s primary data centers for the organization. DCO also administers standards for multiple data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus. DCO is comprised of three primary areas: Infrastructure & Operational Support, Database & Application Support, and Data Center and Infrastructure. Skillsets Required UTHealth Houston is looking for a System Administrator with a focus on Linux and a well-rounded background in systems and server support. Technical Qualifications would include: Required: Linux Server Administration: Includes installation, configuration, security, and troubleshooting of on-premises physical servers and virtual servers, as well as Google/AWS/Azure cloud servers. Experienced in working with Dell Server Hardware. Client/Server Application support: Backend systems support for client-server applications. Understanding of basic BASH scripting along with web technologies such as IIS, Tomcat, and Apache. Understanding of SSL certificate implementation. CMS Administration: Proficiency in application framework delivering content management, user management, role-based security, scalable distributed architecture, dashboards, and a range of plugins, APIs, and themes. Organizational Skills: Ability to understand project methodology and project management. Use of Azure DevOps, Microsoft Teams, and M365 tools such as Planner. Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written and orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must be able to think logically in solving problems and implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all existing and newly discovered problems to move the project towards completion. Must be able to work in a team environment and be a self-contributor, meeting all project-related goals. Candidates should possess a broad range of technical capabilities that enable them to handle all aspects of application management, as well as communicate and discuss technical design issues and problem resolution with Application and System Administrators. Must be able to work with vendors and clients both internal to IT and external, to understand needs to scope projects and system environments to satisfy the overall objective of any project. Availability: UTHealth System Administrators support a variety of mission-critical and 24x7 patient care-focused systems that must be readily available. To support these systems, scheduled and non-scheduled after-hours work is often required. There is also an on-call rotation that has been scheduled, months in advance, to help triage issues after-hours and on holidays. Additional skills that would be a plus for this position: Experience with version control systems, particularly GitHub and GitLab Knowledge of SEO best practices for WordPress sites. Knowledge of Secure File Transfer Services including RSA and PGP based encryption Experience with systems and database cloud support (AWS, Azure, Google): including EC2, RDS, FSX and DynamoDB exposure. Preferred knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySql Database as well as Oracle and MS SQL Server. Scripting/Programming Technologies: BASH, Python, PHP, PowerShell, .NET, Java, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform. Knowledge of clinical systems such as EPIC, DICOM Imaging systems, and Digital Dentistry systems. Knowledge of monitoring tools such as New Relic, Google Analytics, Dynatrace, Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager, and Monyog for MySQL, as well as SolarWinds – Server and App Monitor, would be a plus. Position Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day activities related to system stability, reliability, and security. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Utilizes appropriate procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of organizational servers, data systems, file structures, computer operating systems, and computer system software. 2. Installs, maintains, configures, and upgrades UNIX operating systems to improve the reliability, safety, and performance of the system. 3. Works with Network Security Analyst to ensure security and integrity of computer operating systems and supporting software by detecting hackers and ensuring remote access is encrypted. 4. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations in conjunction with the Disaster Recovery & Security Analyst. 5. Performs basic and intermediate-level shell and kernel programming and testing. 6. Conducts studies of projected enhancements in hardware and software and presents recommendations to management. 7. Conducts performance measurement and evaluation of the servers to ensure Service Level Agreements (SLA) are met. 8. Implements security and disaster recovery according to established standards, policy, and guidelines. 9. Participates in all phases of total system planning and in the generation of justifications and specifications for facility requirements and enhancements. 10. Implements system software projects. 11. Presents technical briefings. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems. Familiar with WEB technology, database concepts, and networking. Linux Server Administration Client/Server Application support CMS Administration Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, training in information technology or related experience in lieu of education. Minimum Experience: One (1) year of experience in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments. Preferred experience with the network and server hardware, software, and security tools that UTHSC-H has deployed in its information technology infrastructure. Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
