Overview JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Senior Database Developer – Microsoft Access and cloud-native SQL DURATION: Long term | Client: HHSC | Location: Austin TX Hybrid We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with 10+ years of experience in Microsoft Access and cloud-native SQL to lead the migration of legacy Access databases into modern, high-performance SQL platforms. This role will work closely with program users to analyze existing data structures, design and execute schema transformations, ETL pipelines, validation checks, and cut-over plans, and guide stakeholders through a seamless data transition. Responsibilities • Enters codes to create production data base and monitor database performance, including distribution of records and available memory. • Directs programmers and analysts to modify the data base management system; review and correct programs; answer user questions; and confer with coworkers on impacts of changes and cost considerations. • Modify database programs to increase processing performance (performance tuning) and ensure data integrity across the environment. • Assist in planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems; ensure design phases align with database structural parameters. • Evaluate user requests for new data elements, incorporate them into the shared data environment, and provide technical assistance. • Coordinate data usage to ensure integrity, load databases, reorganize as needed, and perform data modeling and prototyping (logical and physical) including relational designs. • Implement security recovery procedures and determine storage requirements; maintain data dictionaries and enforce standard definitions. • Monitor performance and recommend efficiency improvements; create test database environments and procedures to save, retrieve, and recover data. • Assist with database security standards, disaster recovery procedures, installation of database software, and analysis, design, and implementation of databases. • Assist in benchmarking, threshold testing, and selecting database management software; support data integration and batch processing in Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS. • Collaborate on migration planning, cut-over activities, and validation for moving data from legacy databases to new targets. Qualifications • Minimum Requirements: Candidates that do not meet or exceed the minimum stated requirements will be displayed to customers but may not be chosen for this opportunity. • 10+ years of proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining advanced MS Access databases, including normalized table structures, complex queries, intuitive data entry forms, and comprehensive reports. • 10+ years of expert-level relational database design, normalization, ER modeling, schema refactoring, and translating Access data models into scalable SQL schemas. • 10+ years of experience with Microsoft Access (table design, complex queries, forms, reports) and proficiency in VBA for custom functionalities and workflow automation. • 10+ years of experience migrating legacy databases into at least one major cloud SQL service (Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server/MySQL). • 8+ years of ETL tool experience (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS, or equivalent). • 8+ years creating migration runbooks, data dictionaries, technical documentation, and delivering training or knowledge-transfer sessions. • 8+ years of experience with RDBMS admin/console tools (TOAD, SSMS, and/or SQL Developer). • 8+ years configuring data integration and batch processing solutions in Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS; monitoring data ingestion processes and performance; reviewing query plans. • 8+ years migrating data from legacy databases to new target databases. • 6+ years of hands-on experience with CI/CD methodologies, GitHub, and JIRA. • 6+ years of hands-on experience with data visualization/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau). • 6+ years of hands-on experience with Agile Development Methodologies. • 3+ years of prior experience in healthcare or Public Health. • 3+ years of experience implementing and using agile methodologies and best practices for one or more State of Texas Agencies. #J-18808-Ljbffr
