The Systems Administrator III is responsible for day-to-day operation, maintenance, and support of virtual resources to optimize overall performance, maintain data integrity and availability to end users. This individual monitors system alerts to ensure virtual machines, operating systems, software applications, network/security systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational expectations. Operations and Support • Perform daily system monitoring, including verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, networks, and key processes. • Review system and application logs and take necessary action to resolve alerts. • Perform daily backup and replication operations, ensuring all required servers, system data and configurations are successfully backed up to appropriate media and are restorable. • Perform regular file archive and purge as necessary per retention policy. • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request and documented instructions. • Respond to user support requests; investigate and troubleshoot issues, document in ticketing system. • Repair and recover from hardware, network, or software failures, communicate with impacted users. • Assist in evaluation of user needs and research/demo solutions to present and/or include in budget planning. • Configure systems for high availability and load balancing. • Install and test system software upgrades. • Other related duties as assigned. Maintenance • Apply OS patches and upgrades as scheduled, upgrade administrative tools and utilities, configure/add new services as necessary. • Upgrade and configure software that support server environments (after hours for critical production systems). • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. • Perform ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization; configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Provisioning • Research and recommend innovative solutions and automated approaches for system administration tasks. • Install new or rebuild existing Microsoft Windows servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, network, etc., in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. • Contribute to and maintain system standards including related documentation. Required Education and/or Experience • Associate’s degree in in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely-related discipline (or equivalent experience). • 7+ years of systems administration experience. • Strong knowledge of Office 365 administration including Identity and Endpoint Manager. • Advanced knowledge of VMware enterprise virtual environment. • IT Automation, Configuration Management, Orchestration Tools. • Willingness to learn and stay updated with the latest developments in Information Technology and systems administration. Preferred Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field. • Experience managing networks, storage & telephony solutions • Basic administrative knowledge of Microsoft SQL • Relevant internships, projects, or certifications: VCTA, VCP, VCAP, VCDX.
