Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role for a Senior Information Technology Technician located in Whippany, NJ. The Senior IT Technician will handle day-to-day tasks such as troubleshooting technical issues, providing technical support, conducting customer service interactions, and delivering training sessions on systems and software. Minimum Experience Required • 3-4 years in IT support, preferably in an MSP or fast-paced environment • Prior experience with escalation workflows, documenting fixes, and working across multiple client environments Core Role Expectations A Level 2 Technician serves as an escalation point from Tier 1, taking on more complex technical issues, managing systems more independently, and frequently interfacing with client environments. They are expected to: • Handle escalated tickets with minimal supervision • Troubleshoot system-level and application-level issues • Communicate clearly with clients and vendors • Contribute to documentation and knowledge base • Assist in project deployments and infrastructure work Required Technical Skills • Operating Systems • Windows Server (2016/2019/2022): user and service management, AD roles • Windows 10/11 and basic macOS troubleshooting • Microsoft 365 • Mail flow, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint • License assignment, MFA setup, basic PowerShell for M365 • Active Directory & Azure AD • User/group management, GPO, OU management • Sync issues, hybrid AD environments, and conditional access • Networking Fundamentals • DNS/DHCP/NAT troubleshooting • VLANs, firewalls (SonicWall, Fortinet, etc.), VPN setup and support • Ability to read and interpret network diagrams • Backup Systems • Familiarity with backup technologies (Datto, Veeam, etc.) • Perform restores, validate backups, check schedules/logs • Virtualization • Hyper-V or VMware: snapshot management, VM deployment, resource monitoring • Security Awareness • Endpoint security tools (EDR/AV) • MFA setup and troubleshooting • Basic vulnerability/patch management Tools Familiarity (Common in MSPs) • RMM (e.g., N-Central, ConnectWise Automate) • PSA (e.g., HaloPSA, ConnectWise Manage) • Remote Access Tools (e.g., ScreenConnect, TeamViewer) • Documentation systems (e.g., IT Glue, Hudu) • Ticketing & SLA awareness Certifications – Preferred (Not mandatory but a strong signal of capability and motivation) • CompTIA Network+ • CompTIA Security+ • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator (MD-102) • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) • ITIL v4 Foundation (for service delivery alignment) Soft Skills • Clear written and verbal communication • Ownership mentality: takes responsibility for escalations and follows through • Customer-first mindset: speaks with confidence and calm under pressure • Collaborative and supportive of Tier 1 techs • Time and priority management: balances ticket queue and project work
