About You The IT Database Administrator is responsible for supporting and maintaining database systems with a focus on cloud-based platforms, ensuring availability, performance, and security. This role supports database operations, optimization, and modern data infrastructure initiatives, primarily within Microsoft Azure environments. This is an Austin-based hybrid role requiring selected candidate to work three days onsite at our TASB Headquarters. A Typical Day • Administer and support Azure SQL Databases, Managed SQL Instances, and on-prem SQL Server environments. • Work independently with the Data Architect, Programmer Analysts, development teams, and End Users to size databases, add indexes where necessary, create physical tables and partition the database as needed. • Participate in the preliminary planning/budgeting process for responsible systems. • Collaborate with development teams to support database design, indexing strategies, and query optimization. • If you’re still reading, we’d love to meet you! How You'll Make An Impact • Perform routing database maintenance, backups, restores, and patching. • Monitor and optimize database performance using tools like Query Store, Azure Monitor, and SQL Profiler. • Participate in database migrations to Azure and assist in hybrid cloud environments. • Support security compliance by managing access controls and auditing. • Participate in on-call rotation. • Capture, monitor, and analyze computer and database usage data, health, and tuning and recommend and implement policies and best practices to provide maximum resource utilization, optimal performance, timely maintenance and minimum downtime. • Monitor systems usage and proactively recommend new technology to meet the Association's increasingly greater technology needs. • Work as needed and in a leadership role with the development teams to set up and schedule jobs and events for database tasks. • Establish standards and schedules for systems and database backups and recovery procedures ensuring that backup schedules meet recovery requirements. • Create and maintain descriptive system documentation, which may include project plans, data flow diagrams, entity relationship model, program specifications, and internal program documentation. Skills For Success Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. • 3–5 years of experience in database administration, with at least 1–2 years in Azure environments. • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) preferred. • Prefer 6+ years’ experience & training. • 2+ years of hands-on experience with SSIS in enterprise environments. • Strong technical knowledge and experience specializing in Microsoft-centric environments, Internet applications/environment. • Strong technical knowledge and experience in Microsoft SQL Server. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : • Proficiency in T-SQL, Azure SQL, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). • Familiarity with Azure Resource Manager (ARM), PowerShell, or Terraform for database provisioning. • Understanding of cloud networking, security, and cost optimization in Azure. • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. • Must enjoy independent action and be able to communicate well with internal users/customers, technical staff, and development staff. • Familiarity with integrating SSIS in hybrid environments (on-prem and Azure). • Experience with SSIS logging, error handling, and performance tuning. • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain SSIS packages for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. • Monitor and troubleshoot SSIS package execution and performance issues. • Collaborate with business and development teams to gather ETL requirements and ensure data integrity across systems. • Automate data workflows and integrate SSIS with other tools such as SQL Agent, Azure Data Factory, or PowerShell scripts. • Proficiency in developing and maintaining SSIS packages for complex ETL processes.
