Job Details Job Location 1- Municipal Building - Cheyenne, WY Position Type Full Time Education Level High School or GED Job Category Information Technology Description Network Systems Technician ll JOB TITLE: Information Technology Network Systems Tech II CLASSIFICATION : Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT : Information Technology SUPERVISOR: Information Technology Administrator & Manager SALARY: $52,906 to $63,487 Annually GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Under supervision from the Information Technology Manager or Administrator, assists in configuration, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting enterprise computer network systems and various software applications and activities of the Information Technology Division; assesses and responds to the needs of users; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to area of assignment and performs various other related Division duties as required. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Check backup logs, error logs and volume space of all assigned networks; perform in-house preventative and need maintenance on file servers, workstations, hardware, and software; analyze problems and make recommendations. • Install, monitor, configure and repair system hardware, peripherals and software on servers and workstations. • Modify system setup to meet changing user needs; update and change menus; perform system backups; implement and modify network procedures. • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of network service delivery methods and procedures; make recommendations. • Research and prepare specifications for purchase of servers and workstations, software, and hardware; monitor and assist vendor installations; learn and assist with other computer operations areas within the Division provide administrative support duties as assigned. • Assist in maintaining an IT trouble ticket system. • Respond to user inquiries in a courteous and understandable manner; provide training as directed. SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with other operations and functions of the Information Technology Division. • Stay abreast of new technology and innovations. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • NOS (Network Operating System) technical/operational and computer hardware, devices, and software. • Principles and practices of computer operations, systems, programming, and software, including peripherals such as printers, modems, etc.; principles and functions of network equipment and VoIP telephone system. • Install and maintain computer system hardware and software. • Provide a wide variety of assistance and support; make recommendations for system use and growth. • Monitor network performances; provide accurate and timely backups; logs. • Install and oversee installation of network cables and connectors. • Learn and train users on various software, printers. • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment. • Microsoft Office Suite software and hardware, including peripherals such as printers, scanners, and VoIP telephone system, and assigned software. • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. • Identify and analyze problems; propose solutions. • Understand and follow through with verbal and written directions. • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. • Interpret and explain Information Technology policies and procedures. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work; team oriented, but able to work independently as well. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB Required: High school diploma or GED. Three (3) years of increasing responsibility in computer network system support. Preferred: Associates degree or specialized training in computer science or related field.
