Position Overview We are seeking a System Administrator to support high-availability systems within the energy and utilities industry. The ideal candidate has experience supporting complex IT environments and a strong understanding of systems used in real-time operational settings. Key Responsibilities • Provide full lifecycle system administration and support for energy sector operational systems • Maintain and administer complex computing environments, ensuring stability, reliability, and compliance across both production and training systems. • Collaborate closely with operations, IT, and engineering teams to support 24/7 mission-critical infrastructure. • Coordinate deployments of system updates, databases, and display configurations in line with operational schedules. • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues; develop and implement preventative maintenance plans. • Configure, stage, test, and document system changes and upgrades following change management procedures. • Support the installation and administration of vendor-specific applications (e.g., energy or grid management tools), ensuring functionality and integration with broader systems. • Provide technical analysis and assist with the interpretation of design specifications for system upgrades or enhancements. • Create and maintain operational documentation, system user guides, and disaster recovery procedures. • Train staff on tools, processes, and applications as needed; act as a subject matter expert on assigned systems. • Provide limited after-hours or on-call support during emergencies or critical system incidents. Required Qualifications • Education & Experience: • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant IT experience. • OR, 5+ years of IT system administration experience in lieu of a degree. • Technical Skills: • 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows Server operating systems. • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Visual Studio. • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as C++ or PowerShell for application support. • Understanding of control systems, data systems design, high-availability architectures, and configuration management practices. • Experience following structured project management and system deployment practices. Preferred Experience • Background working with operational technology systems in energy, utilities, or industrial control center environments. • Familiarity with grid simulation software and energy management systems (EMS). • Experience with specialized tools or platforms used in utility IT • Awareness of industry standards such as NERC CIP or FISMA. • Knowledge of networking, cybersecurity, and compliance in high-security environments.
