As a Principal Data Architect, you’ll define and drive the architecture that powers data products across our smart home ecosystem. You’ll lead the design of scalable systems that ingest, process, and serve time-series telemetry from millions of devices, supporting use cases from real-time alerting to enterprise analytics. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams including data engineering, cloud, AI, and product. JOB DUTIES: • Evolve and design a scalable, secure, and efficient data architectures that power connected HVAC/Security/and other IoT solutions, enabling performance metrics, analytics, and downstream AI applications. • Analyze and interpret complex time series data from connected HVAC systems to build cutting-edge metrics of HVAC performance, generate insights, and create value for our network of pros and homeowners using our IoT solution • Lead the design and implementation of robust, distributed data platforms that support ingestion, storage, and processing of high-volume time-series telemetry across millions of devices. • Define and enforce architectural standards, data modeling best practices, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across all data systems. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product, cloud, analytics, and AI/ML—to translate business needs into data infrastructure capabilities that support rapid experimentation and reliable productionization. • Establish patterns and templates for self-service data access, decision tooling, and data products for internal and external stakeholders. • Provide technical mentorship to data engineers and analysts, and drive architectural reviews, build-vs-buy decisions, and long-term roadmap planning for Resideo’s data ecosystem. YOU MUST HAVE: • 8+ years of experience in data architecture, engineering, or platform roles, with a strong background in distributed systems, data modeling, and cloud-native data processing. Expert in at least one programming language for data analysis (e.g., Python), experience with SQL a plus • Experience with data pipelines and architectures, including technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Delta Lake, or equivalent. • Proficiency in modern data engineering and scripting languages (e.g., PySpark, Scala, SQL); experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) a plus. • Hands-on experience with modern data lakehouse platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake; strong familiarity with cloud ecosystems (AWS or Azure). • Proven track record architecting data platforms for production-scale applications, including data warehousing, real-time processing, and ML/AI enablement. WE VALUE: • Domain knowledge in time-series, HVAC systems, smart home IoT, or similar industrial telemetry environments. • Experience establishing data governance frameworks and driving adoption of data catalogs, lineage tools, and metadata management solutions. • Prior leadership of architectural modernization initiatives (e.g., migration to lakehouse or event-driven architectures). • A strong product mindset—balancing technical rigor with practical business trade-offs. • Passion for mentoring and raising the bar across engineering and data teams.
