Description The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking to hire one student assistant to work in Commissioner McAllister's Office. The student will analyze data sets, create visualizations, and present findings. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable) at an accredited college or university. Majors/Fields of Study Computer Science, Economics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or any close related field. Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Compensation $17.70 - $28.08 per hour Minimum Qualifications • Possess a cumulative 2.0 GPA or above. • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. • Basic SharePoint and Microsoft Teams knowledge. • Ability to work in a team environment and provide excellent customer service. • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Commission staff. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Good analytical and critical thinking skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and objectives. • Good organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person. • Proficient in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax to effectively review and improve written content. Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and an understanding of data visualization principles. • Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities • Analyzing interval meter data. • Creating visualizations. • Presenting data findings at CEC business meetings. • Providing briefings to commissioners. • Assisting divisions in analysis involving interval meter data. • May also assist in general office duties such as data projects and other tasks as assigned. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
