The IT Specialist (APPSW) at the Food Safety and Inspection Service is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications while providing technical support throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Summary This position located in the Office of the Administrator (OA), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Business Solutions Center (BSC). OCIO provides information technology (IT) planning, design, application development, systems administration, telecommunications, information assurance/security, information management, and IT customer support services for FSIS. Duties Help • Develops, deploys, and debugs software for on-premises, cloud, mobile device, and prototype applications using programming languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, Go and SQL. • Develops comprehensive unit tests for all developed source code. • Coordinates software configuration management in different application life cycle management systems, such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and other open-source products. • Works with scheduling tools to create, update, review, and maintain Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) documentation. • Provides technical support, guidance, and document review as the subject matter expert at various phases of the SDLC. • Acts as a technical advisor for application development within FSIS. • Generates and reviews levels of effort (LOE) and independent government cost estimates (IGCE). • Provides oversight and technical leadership for external contract development efforts, and ensures compatibility with FSIS standards, policies, and infrastructure architecture. • Supports application production activities through continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines, troubleshooting, and diagnosing problems. • Informs, develops, and recommends technical solutions and alternatives for senior management consideration. • Serves as contracting officer representative (COR). • Anticipates potential issues, and develops strategies to address said issues.
