Position Summary The Senior Technical Operations Center (TOC) Engineer is a highly skilled technical professional responsible for advanced monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support of enterprise IT infrastructure, networks, and mission-critical business applications. This role serves as the primary escalation point for Engineers, handling complex technical issues and leading incident response efforts. The Senior TOC Engineer works within an ITIL-driven environment, participating in Incident Management and continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance system reliability, observability, and performance. As part of the Infrastructure Operations group, this position collaborates closely with the Systems Engineering and Network Engineering teams to improve proactive monitoring, strengthen operational automation, and ensure the highest level of system availability. This is a hands-on role that requires exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to remain composed in high-pressure environments, and a proactive approach to achieving operational excellence. Remote or hybrid work options are not available. • Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annual salary • Bonus: 10% yearly bonus target Essential Job Duties • Monitor and manage IT infrastructure, network systems, and key business applications using enterprise-class monitoring and observability tools. • Serve as the first point of escalation for TOC Engineers, providing advanced troubleshooting, guidance, and root cause analysis for complex technical incidents. • Lead incident response and management efforts, ensuring incidents are properly classified, escalated, and resolved promptly. • Participate in and contribute to ITIL Incident Management processes, conducting root cause analysis and assisting in post-incident reviews. • Partner with Systems and Network Engineering teams to enhance monitoring capabilities, observability, and proactive incident prevention. • Develop and implement automation scripts and monitoring enhancements to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. • Automate alerting and monitoring workflows to optimize response times and operational accuracy. • Analyze system logs, network traffic, and performance data to detect early signs of degradation or risk and take proactive action to prevent outages. • Collaborate with IT, Security, and DevOps teams to ensure system reliability, resilience, and security posture. • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical training to junior and mid-level TOC engineers to strengthen team capabilities. • Work with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve critical infrastructure or service-impacting issues. • Maintain detailed documentation of procedures, troubleshooting methods, and configurations to support team knowledge sharing. • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations, providing senior-level leadership during major incidents. • Lead major incident response efforts, coordinating cross-functional teams to restore services efficiently and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Required Qualifications Education: • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience: • 3+ years of hands-on experience in IT operations, network monitoring, or system administration. • Advanced understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, and DHCP. • Proficiency with enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Nagios, PRTG, or Zabbix. • Strong experience managing both Windows and Linux environments, and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). • Working knowledge of ITIL best practices for Incident, Problem, and Change Management. • Experience with scripting or automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Ansible. • Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously. • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional technical teams. • Solid understanding of cybersecurity best practices, firewall configurations, and the use of SIEM tools. • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Certifications: • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ (preferred) • Microsoft Fundamentals (Azure, M365, or Windows Server) • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Azure Fundamentals • ITIL Foundation Certification (preferred for candidates supporting Incident Management responsibilities) • Technical Proficiency: • Deep familiarity with enterprise monitoring platforms and alert management systems. • Understanding of virtualization, cloud infrastructure, and automation tools. • Ability to write or modify automation scripts to support monitoring and maintenance tasks. • Soft Skills: • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across IT, security, and business units. • Excellent documentation, organizational, and mentoring skills. • Adaptability and composure when responding to major incidents or critical events. • Analytical mindset with a continuous improvement attitude toward processes and technology.
