Reporting directly to the VP of Business Insights & Application Engineering, the Business Insights Lead is responsible for overseeing the Business Insights staff and resources dedicated to achieving operational goals. The Business Insights Lead plays a key role in mentoring junior team members on data engineering best practices, transforming raw data into actionable insights using ETL processes, SQL, Python, and Pandas and also building reports using SSRS or Power BI. Duties and responsibilities Leadership & Team Management • Lead by example, reinforce, and consistently uphold Sandia Area’s Values: Service, Sustainability, Efficiency, Trust, Stewardship, and Growth. • Contribute to leading a high-performing team; monitor performance targets, foster a culture of continuous improvement, encourage innovation, learning, and adapting best practices to optimize performance. • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to employees, fostering a positive and high-performing team environment. • Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring process, ensuring candidates align with the credit union’s mission, values, and service culture. • Support the onboarding, training, and development of new hires, fostering a positive and growth-oriented work environment. • Directly supervise staff with the goal of enhancing professional development and personal growth. • Develop staffing plans and schedules to ensure effective coverage and team balance. • Act as an escalation point for complex data pipeline and reporting issues. • Build and lead a high-performing data analytics team; set performance targets, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and encourage innovation. Technical Oversight & Review • Train and mentor staff on data warehousing best practices, data modeling, and query optimization. • Design and implement ETL processes using Python and tools like SSIS. • Create and maintain data pipelines and workflow orchestration with Apache Airflow. • Develop reports and dashboards using SSRS or Power BI to visualize key business metrics. • Build interactive data applications using Streamlit. • Develop Python scripts utilizing pandas for, Data cleansing and transformation, Statistical analysis and aggregations. • Use Time-series analysis where applicable. • Implement data models using Kimball methodology. • Collaborate with IT teams on infrastructure and systems that support data initiatives. • Use scripting languages like Python, Powershell to automate processes. Compliance & Policy Adherence • Ensure data integrity and quality across all Business Insights initiatives. • Conduct periodic audits of data processes and pipelines. • Maintain documentation of data sources, transformations, and business rules. • Ensure all data handling complies with information security policies like PCI, PII and other regulatory requirements. Reporting & Analytics • Develop dashboards and reports using SSRS, Power BI, Matplotlib, or Seaborn. • Work with business leadership on any adhoc reports needed for compliance reporting, audits etc. • Implement automated report delivery systems to ensure timely distribution of insights to stakeholders.
