Job Title: Azure Cloud Engineer I Location: NCDOT Century Center, Building B 1020 Birch Ridge Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610 Work Arrangement: Hybrid Local candidates only (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area) Duration: 12 months contract Position Overview We are seeking an Azure Cloud Engineer with strong hands-on experience to help implement and manage cloud infrastructure in a secure and scalable manner. The engineer will work closely with senior architects and application teams to support deployment, configuration, documentation, and optimization of Azure services, networking components, and infrastructure. This role requires a proactive engineer who can contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and enforcement of cloud governance policies in a large public-sector environment. The engineer will support both new deployments and modernization of existing applications. Note: Candidate must be local to the Triangle region of North Carolina. The position may require up to 3 days per week onsite. The selected candidate will need to report onsite on the first day to collect equipment. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the setup and configuration of core Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and environments. • Implement Azure Policies, RBAC permissions, and tagging standards based on team guidance. • Deploy and support core Azure networking (VWAN, Azure Firewall, VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, VPN/ExpressRoute). • Configure and manage Azure Application Gateways and related components. • Contribute to infrastructure automation using Bicep, ARM, or PowerShell scripts. • Troubleshoot connectivity and application issues, including Azure on-premise network integrations. • Support incident resolution and assist with root cause analysis. • Monitor Azure environments and assist in alerting, logging, and diagnostics configuration. • Collaborate with development, architecture, and security teams on deployments and infrastructure changes. • Follow and reinforce cloud governance, security, and compliance policies. Required Skills & Experience • 3+ years of strong Azure networking (VWAN, ExpressRoute, VPN, Firewall, VNET) including hybrid networking with on-premises. • 3+ years designing Azure environments with a "private-by-default" approach and enforcing policies to prevent public exposure. • 3+ years experience implementing and managing Azure Policies, RBAC, and resource tagging strategies. • 5+ years of strong problem-solving and communication skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams. Preferred Skills • Microsoft Azure Certifications (AZ-104, AZ-700, AZ-305) or other relevant certifications. • Hands-on experience managing and deploying Azure landing zone architecture in enterprise environments.
