About the position Responsibilities • Stay up to date with emerging technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, software as a service and platform as a service offerings across cloud systems used by the college. • Participate in the initiation and completion of strategic projects, including integration with other college applications and third-party services. • Play a leading role in actively reviewing, maintaining, and improving the college’s cloud and cybersecurity platforms focusing on Google Workspace, Trustwave, Duo MFA and other core infrastructure systems. • In collaboration with the Director and Sr Administrator, organize daily responsibilities and delegate tasks to the CTS team. • Participate fully and as an equal member in the team that handles the configuration, management, and access control for IT services that utilize software as a service offerings. • Work closely with the Research Computing Specialist to ensure that High Performance Computing Linux environments available to the HMC community are well maintained and fit for purpose. • Independently plan and apply OS and application patches for Linux server environments to ensure that all systems are up to date and as secure. • Configure and test services within Google Workspace for Education including all the core services and other features such as data loss prevention, account maintenance and context sensitive authorization. • Make recommendations to take advantage of cloud offerings, such as moving services from virtual machines to functions as a service. • Plan, implement, and maintain single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), mobile device management (MDM) and identity and access management (IAM) services for the college. • Monitor critical services and take appropriate action to proactively resolve issues. • Assist with day-to-day support for on/off premise services, such as troubleshooting and end-user problem resolution. • Actively participate in disaster recovery planning, implementation and quality assurance. • Keep up to date with developments in cloud computing in general and Google Workspace for Education in particular; provide recommendations to improve cloud services and operational efficiencies. • Support local Linux systems and educate academic and administrative departments about cloud options, assisting them with migrations as appropriate. • Act as a vendor liaison for Google Workspace for Education. • Actively inform CIS staff and others on campus about features and functionality available from vendors. • Act as a technical contact for 3rd parties and vendors relating to cloud-based, on-premises and hybrid computing resources and solutions at the college. • Actively monitor systems for security related anomalies. • Ensure that security is part of the design of cloud services. • Participate in the review of cybersecurity screening of vendors. • Participate in the development of cybersecurity playbooks. • Provide application and system support outside of usual campus hours, as needed or required. • Create, maintain and audit relevant technical documentation. • Attend and actively participate in team, CIS department, and other Claremont technical meetings. • Escalate urgent issues via phone and email to CIS managers 24/7. • Work directly with other CIS teams to support server and application related issues or initiatives. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Proficiency with Linux operating system in order to install, configure and secure servers. • Experience in the ongoing maintenance of Linux systems, including application maintenance. • Knowledge of Google Workspace administration. • Some experience with Microsoft Azure platform to act in a backup capacity to the Senior Administrator. • Demonstrated technical understanding and experience with systems that provide single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and identity and access management. • Sufficient background knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, web servers, SQL, Active Directory and VPN. Nice-to-haves • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment. • Ability to carry out independent research and make well reasoned recommendations. • Ability to work well in a small team oriented college department. • Ability to juggle many different demands during a typical workday without losing track of priorities. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with developing servers and implementing services within SaaS and IaaS solutions. • Familiarity with user side and administration of Google Workspace. • Some familiarity with user side and administration of Microsoft 365 environments. • Demonstrated desire and willingness to keep up with constantly changing cloud offerings. • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. • Ability to communicate technical concepts in terms that are appropriate for the intended audience. • Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner. • Ability to work with a range of technical staff to troubleshoot and develop joint solutions. • Demonstrated understanding of technical troubleshooting methodology and effective analytical skills. Benefits • Salary: \$85,000-\$93,000 per year • Exempt, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position.
