Description Join Leidos as a Cloud Database Engineer to contribute to an impactful program within a Federal Law Enforcement Agency. In this role, you will play a crucial part in administering, optimizing, and managing databases and infrastructure, with a strong focus on Azure cloud services, SQL Server, Apache Tomcat, and Data Bricks. This position includes responsibilities such as database maintenance, creating data pipelines, performance tuning, and developing reporting solutions. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate with a solid background in database engineering who is eager to enhance their skills in cloud environments, analytics, and big data technologies. This position will be located onsite in the DC area. Key Responsibilities: • Administer and manage Azure SQL Databases, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake while ensuring high availability, security, and performance. • Optimize cloud-based databases for cost efficiency, performance, and scalability within the Azure ecosystem. • Automate database provisioning and management using tools like Azure CLI, PowerShell, and AZ Copy. • Monitor and address database performance issues to ensure optimal query performance and uptime. • Assist in migrating databases to Azure SQL Database, ensuring seamless transitions throughout the process. • Design and implement efficient data pipelines using Azure Databricks for scalable ETL processes. • Create and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations to deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders. • Utilize R Studio for building and optimizing data models, as well as performing statistical analysis on large datasets. • Support the management of Apache Tomcat servers hosting web applications and data services. • Troubleshoot and resolve performance and security issues related to applications and their integration with databases. • Document database configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and standard operating protocols for future reference. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience. • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in database administration, data engineering, or a comparable field with expertise in SQL Server, Azure, Power BI, Data Bricks, and Apache Tomcat. • Strong understanding of SQL Server Database Administration, including aspects like backup, recovery, performance tuning, and security protocols. • Practical experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake. • Experience with Azure Databricks for data engineering, ETL tasks, and big data analytics. • Proficiency in R Studio for analytical purposes, statistical modeling, and scripting. • Expertise in developing and managing Power BI dashboards and reports. • Familiarity with Apache Tomcat for managing web applications and data services. • Exceptional problem-solving and optimization skills concerning database systems and data pipelines. • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams, working with developers, analysts, and business users. • Clear communication skills are essential for documenting processes, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Skills: • Experience with Azure DevOps for implementing continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) processes. • Familiarity with Python or PowerShell for automation and scripting in cloud settings. • Knowledge of Data Governance principles and best practices for secure data management. • Experience in data migration to cloud platforms, particularly from on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL Database. • Microsoft certifications in Azure, SQL Server, or Power BI are an advantage.
