Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineer Manager to lead the Inventory and Asset Management Engineering team, focusing on enhancing datacenter operations and efficiency. Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud .The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. Within the Cloud Operations & Innovation organization, we are the Inventory and Asset Management Engineering team that builds and operates Microsoft datacenters. We own inventory systems that track inventory and inventory operations in the datacenters, our data and services contribute a great portion of enabling Microsoft datacenters to run smoothly. Your ICs should look up to you to solve hard technical problems. • You will manage communication and collaboration for your team by setting the right expectations with leadership, negotiating dependencies with partners, and promptly resolving conflicts. • You create clarity and opportunities in their team for higher impact: • Break down long term project vision into shovel ready plans. • Generates new opportunities and oversees resourcing in the team to improve agility and quality. • Engineering managers are accountable for growing their team by increasing employee engagement and happiness, upleveling team impact year over year, growing talent and retaining demonstrated high performers, and championing the team's culture. Qualifications Required / Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python • * OR equivalent experience. • 2+ years experience working with data analytics, data pipelines and cloud computing services, such as Azure. • 2+ years experience with data driven development of user facing web interfaces, integrating data analytics OR behavioral science to grow engagement and retention. • 4+ years people management experience and leading projects across multiple product releases. • Experience on leading end-to-end integration of Blue Yonder solutions. Other Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python • OR equivalent experience. • 4+ years people management experience. • Experience on supply chain software is preferred. • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
