Vision Theater at the heart of public life Values Artistic Vitality, Sustainability, Generous and Inclusive Practices About The Position Seattle Rep is seeking a highly skilled Properties Artisan to join the Properties Department Team. The Properties Team consists of 5 people which provide essential support for our high-quality productions. Typical Duties Include Show specific: • Reads and interprets scaled drawings, sketches, models, and pictures for the engineering and building of properties. • Furniture building, repair, and refinishing. • Sewing draperies. • Upholstery and reupholstery • Assists in the pickup and delivery of furniture and hand props from storage, place of purchase, and rehearsal. • Builds, upholsters, casts, paints, and electrifies all props that are used in Seattle Rep productions. • Assists in the maintenance of production props. • As applicable and/or assigned, orders materials for specific projects. • Creates mockups and samples to help determine the best execution of the final product. • Assists other properties staff as needed. • Assists in striking and putting away all show props. Shop specific. • Properly handles, uses, and disposes of all toxic materials in the workplace. • Assists in the training of the Properties Apprentice. • Attends other assignments as identified by Properties Director, including but not limited to activities in the Theatre. • Attends meetings pertinent to production, props, Seattle Rep all-staff, and EDI work. Other • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications • Commitment to cultivating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace via decisive action including consistently seeking out opportunities for self and community improvement in the areas of racial equity, accessibility, gender inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity. • Proven skills and working knowledge of theatrical props or similar craftmanship, and techniques and materials acquired through education and/or experience. • Proven ability to work in many mediums: wood, metal, plastics, paint, and fabrics. • Proven ability to work with power tools-saws, sewing machines. • Ability to lift and move furniture and appliances safely. • Ability to climb and work from a ladder. • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods of time. • Must process a full range of motion. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Photoshop. Desired Qualifications • 3 or more years professional prop building experience or the equivalent.
