Summary/Objective: The Benefits Specialist (HR Specialist II) is a key player on the team. They will be responsible for managing and administering our employee benefit programs provided by ES&S. This position will assist employees in understanding benefit offerings, assist with benefits questions, claim issues and plan changes. The HR Specialist is responsible for the managing and administration of existing plans while optimizing cost and coverage for the company and employees. This role is an integral part of the company’s mission to attract and retain top talent. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Educate and administer open enrollment and new hire orientation through our benefit platform, provide education around benefits plans, review employee status changes to determine applicable benefits and process any necessary paperwork. • Process and respond to employee benefit requests and work with insurance carriers to resolve issues regarding eligibility and claims. • Communicate benefit options to employees, facilitating informational meetings and creating educational materials through memos, flyers, and presentations. • Work with Brokers, service providers, third-party administrators, auditors, and other related vendors to ensure services are delivered in accordance with contractual terms and that those services meet the performance expectations of the company. • Work cross-functionally with the finance department on benefit billing, process funding, reconciliation, and miscellaneous reports. • Collaborate and work with the HR team in other initiatives to achieve team goals. • Work with employee to process Qualifying Life Events and administer any plan changes into the HRIS system and Providers. • Work directly with Employees, Managers, and Carriers to process and administer all leave of absence requests that will include disability, medical, personal, STD, LTD and FMLA. • Ensure accuracy of all benefit data and benefit enrollment in HRIS systems to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information. Compile and input employee benefit data as needed. • Provide all necessary reports for monthly and quarterly budget review of benefit plans. • Prepare and execute, with legal consultation, benefits documentation and instruct insurance carriers and third-party administrators to effect compliant changes in benefits plans. Review and analyze current laws and regulations pertaining to benefits and employment practices and report suggested or necessary changes to management • Maintains confidential records and personnel files as appropriate. • Other duties may be assigned as needed Qualifications: Education: A bachelor’s degree or related human resources experience is preferred. Experience: • At least 2-4 years’ experience including: • Benefits Administration through various benefit platforms • Leave of Absence Administration – Disability and FMLA • Workers Comp Administration • Benefit Billing and Claim Handling • Proficiency in Human Resources information system (HRIS) and benefit administration platforms • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations like employment law, ERISA, COBRA, etc. • Vendor Management • Customer Service • Maintaining the confidentiality of highly sensitive employee information. Competencies: • Highly motivated with Exceptional customer service skills with all levels • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Diligent, detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills. Licenses/Certifications Preferred: Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS); SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM–SCP) Travel: Approximately <5% travel is expected.
