The Classified Operations team under SPA’s Information Technology (IT) Department establishes and maintains the security posture of classified infrastructure required by our analysts to deliver timely, objective, and cost-effective analysis. SPA has an immediate need for a The Windows & VMware Support Specialist is responsible for configuring, sustaining, and operational supporting Windows-based endpoints and VMware virtual machines within a classified lab environment. This role extends beyond traditional desktop support by integrating system hardening, virtualization administration, and mission-aligned service availability. The specialist ensures that Windows desktop and virtual infrastructure are compliant, stable, and aligned with lab accreditation and operational readiness requirements. Responsibilities The Windows & VMWare Specialist will Install, configure, and support Windows 11 in secure, air-gapped environments. Manage domain integration and Active Directory Group Policy enforcement. Apply and maintain STIG-aligned configurations and patch baselines across all endpoints. Collaborate with lab engineering teams to provision, maintain, and monitor VMware vSphere/ESXi environments. Support VM snapshot management, guest OS configuration, and performance tuning. Assist with software deployments, troubleshooting, and lifecycle refresh planning. Maintain and update system documentation, configuration records, and hardware inventory. Provide Tier II/III support for endpoint-related incidents and service requests. In this role, you will report to the Operations Manager while designing, building, installing and configuring physical and virtual servers/systems, virus updates, patching, maintenance, and performance tuning. Be expected to collaborate with team members to develop creative, secure, and innovative solutions for complex technical issues. You will also support Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) Technical Reviews and Command Cybersecurity Readiness Inspections (CCRI) as the subject matter expert for systems administration. Qualifications Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related field or equivalent work experience and certifications • 4+ years of experience administering Windows systems in secure or isolated environments • Proficiency in Windows desktop administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy Management • Experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi host administration, and VM provisioning • Must meet Department of Defense 8140 certification requirements at IAT Level II; Acceptable certifications include Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, GISCP, and GSEC • Experience configuring systems for compliance using Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and STIG Viewer • Experience administering and patching RHEL 9 servers • Strong understanding of secure desktop lifecycle support (imaging, patching, software deployment) • Experience evaluating Information System security posture by evaluating STIGs and identifying and remediating vulnerabilities • Superior problem solving and time management capabilities • Excellent customer relations and customer support skills • Active DoD Secret security clearance Desired Qualifications • Microsoft Certified: Windows Client • VMware Certified Technical Associate (VCTA) or relevant VMware experience • Familiarity with change control, CM documentation, and vulnerability mitigation workflows • Experience validating system compliance using the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Validation Tool and Evaluate STIG (E-STIG) • Experience using WSUS / IVANTI to manage updates and patches • Experience using VMWare virtualization technologies including ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere • Experience supporting environments without outbound internet access or external service dependencies
