The Database Administrator I at San Antonio Independent School District is responsible for maintaining the District's data warehouse system, ensuring efficient and secure data retrieval and management. This full-time position requires expertise in database administration and ETL processes.

Position Summary The position will be responsible for maintaining the District’s data warehouse system to ensure efficient, effective, and secure data retrieval, aggregation, and access of all District electronic information. Other responsibilities include analyzing the district’s data management, inputs, security needs, and help develop tools that support data access and information security. In addition, this role will be involved in operational improvement projects and development/enhancement of database and business intelligence solutions. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures regarding data access, storage, integrity and security. Comply with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities 1. Design, develop, and execute Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) packages to process data from heterogenous data sources and formats using stored procedures, functions, and SQL scripts in a Microsoft SQL Server environment. 2. Develop, modify, and optimize stored procedures and T-SQL scripts in response to the needs of the District. 3. Design, implement, maintain and document new and existing database objects including tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, and user-defined functions in support of data projects. 4. Manage all database designs by performing moderately complex coding, implementation, maintenance and documentation of custom databases and other applicable data tools. 5. Review and manage software evaluation, hardware suitability, and applicability within the District’s data repositories. 6. Perform SQL Server administration activities (backup, restore, DBCC commands, indexing) 7. Collect, organize, and analyze information related to the development of database applications for specific user needs. 8. Evaluate software and hardware suitability and applicability within District’s data repositories. 9. Provide technical assistance for applications and database software and hardware. Oversees moderately complex data downloads from source systems and other external sources to the data warehouse. Performs scheduled server maintenance as needed. 10. Research, recommend and implement new innovative database technologies. programs. 11. Compile and retain all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents. 12. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position. Minimum Requirements • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Mathematics, or 4 years equivalent experience. • 3+ years of progressive experience in database administration, database management, database design, ETL design, or data analysis. • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong knowledge of various operating systems and productivity tools • Knowledge of business and/or student type application programming and databases • Knowledge of computer hardware and peripheral devices • Knowledge of database design • Ability to normalize, de-normalize, extract and aggregate data • Ability to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflicts • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills • Knowledge of data warehousing / business intelligence best practices • Proficiently use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and/or SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) for Visual Studio (VS) • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot SSIS packages, stored procedures and functions using T-SQL and SSMS and/or SSDT for VS • Use aggregate functions in Microsoft SQL Server • Create and maintain complex queries in Microsoft SQL Server using T-SQL • Understand and use database schemas, tables, relationships, and constraints • Development experience using C# or PowerShell is a plus Working Conditions Work Environment: • Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position. • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise.
