Boost IT (Emagine Portugal) is seeking an experienced VDI Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of virtual desktop infrastructure, enabling secure, scalable, and high-performance remote access for end-users. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical skills, a solid understanding of cloud and on-premise VDI architectures, and a passion for delivering a seamless user experience. Tasks • Serve as the technical SME for Citrix and AVD environments across design, deployment, and lifecycle management. • Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable VDI solutions in Citrix (cloud and on-premises) and Azure cloud (AVD) environments. • Define and document high-level and low-level designs (HLDs/LLDs), capacity plans, and best practices for VDI infrastructure. • Configure and manage Citrix components (Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, Citrix Gateway, Machine Creation Services, Studio/Director). • Deploy and manage Azure Virtual Desktop including host pools, application groups, FSLogix profiles, and scaling plans. • Work with networking, identity, and security teams to ensure compliance and performance across VDI platforms. • Optimize session performance, application delivery, and resource utilization for a consistent user experience. • Maintain patching, monitoring, and backup strategies for VDI environments. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to support and project teams. • Troubleshoot complex issues and act as the highest escalation point for VDI-related incidents. • Stay current with evolving VDI technologies and recommend improvements to the existing architecture. Requirements • Strong experience with Citrix Cloud integration and hybrid-cloud deployments. • 6+ years of experience in virtual desktop infrastructure with deep knowledge of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). • Hands-on experience designing and implementing Citrix CVAD deployments (MCS/PVS, Citrix ADC, StoreFront, Director). • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure services including AVD, Azure Files, FSLogix, and related identity and networking components. • Solid knowledge of Windows 10/11 multi-session, Windows Server OS, Group Policy, and application layering. • Understanding of profile management tools (FSLogix, Citrix UPM) and user experience tuning. • Familiarity with automation and scripting (PowerShell, ARM templates, Azure CLI) for VDI provisioning. • Excellent documentation and design skills – capable of creating detailed architecture diagrams and implementation runbooks. Preferred Qualifications: • Certifications such as Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCE-P), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or AVD Specialist. • Experience with monitoring and analytics tools (Citrix Director, ControlUp, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics). • Knowledge of Zero Trust concepts and integration of VDI with conditional access and security baselines. • Exposure to application packaging/delivery methods such as MSIX, App-V, or App Layering. Soft Skills: • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. • Effective communication and stakeholder management. • Ability to work independently and lead complex technical projects. • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and enterprise-scale environment.
