Description Job Description Summary: Under the direction of the Infrastructure and Systems Manager, the Systems Administrator II is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows server operating systems primarily in a VMWare virtualized environment. This position is responsible for, creating and maintaining asset, inventory, and configuration internal documentation, Group Policy Management, and SCCM administration, including enterprise patch management, vulnerability remediation, compliance reporting, automated software deployment, and software package creation and customization. The Systems Administrator II oversees Windows desktop OS configuration, customization, and uniform enterprise deployment. Other areas of responsibility may include Encryption Solution Management, NextGen AV management, and Monitoring and Configuring systems alerts. The Systems Administrator II may be the first POC for issues related to server performance, and service interruption/outages for enterprise Windows Server systems, depending on On-Call schedule rotation. May be required to provide after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies, vulnerability remediation, or other as needed. Duties And Responsibilities The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Windows Server Administration - Installs, upgrades, configures, tests, maintains, and supports operating system software in a production environment; Administers automated patch management of Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems. Reviews performance logs and monitors system performance; troubleshoot and resolves system hardware, software, and communications problems; create shell programs and utility scripts; perform automated and manual backup and restore processes • Windows Desktop OS Deployment – Establishes and maintains existing Light-Touch Windows deployments and task sequences to achieve automation with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Automated Deployment Toolkit, and underlying components such as Windows PE, DISM, WSUS, Driver Management, Volume Activation Management Tool, and User State Migration Tool. Sets OS configuration options via Group Policy. • SCCM Administration – Manages all aspects of SCCM administration, including enterprise patch management vulnerability remediation, compliance reporting, automated software deployment, software package creation, and customization. Develops processes for deploying computer software and configuration updates Maintains, Upgrades SCCM Server when upgrades are available. • Documentation - Documents and maintains detailed records of all University data center hardware inventory assets. Creates and maintains logical diagrams of infrastructure systems. Oversees and organizes the compilation of technical and end-user documentation related to Network Services Systems. • Backup to Senior Systems Administrator - Performs basic duties of the Infrastructure & Systems Manager during times of absence Skills And Abilities • Expertise in administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services and dependent protocols, Windows 2012 and newer Server OS, and Group Policy • Expertise in Managing Systems Center Configuration Manager in a medium-sized or larger environment • Expertise in the use of command line utilities required to manage enterprise systems, including PowerShell, AD Utilities, or other scripting languages in daily operations and in automation. • Proven experience deploying Windows 10 enterprise-wide in a uniform configuration using Group Policy, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, or similar tool to achieve automated OS configuration • Experience configuring Windows guest operating systems for deployment in a virtual desktop environment, Horizon View, or Citrix using the Vmware OS Optimization Tool or similar. • Experience using Orca or another similar tool to customize vendor software package deployment • Expertise in performing TCP/IP troubleshooting and a solid understanding of PXE, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, and CIDR • Experience using an enterprise backup and recovery solution • Proficiency in using Microsoft Visio or similar tool • Ability to support enterprise-class computer server hardware, power management equipment, data rack enclosures, network cabling patch panels, wire management accessories, and network cable endpoint nodes with expert competence. • Knowledge of the systems development life cycle, structured analysis, and design techniques, user requirement definition, interviewing and data collection techniques, and PC-based packages used in the development and/or support of production systems, conversion activities, testing methodologies, and implementation procedures. • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills; ability to work under pressure in a team environment. • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels within the University. • Display professionalism in the performance of all duties by demonstrating cooperation, courtesy, and sensitivity to the needs of others. • Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and institutional information. • Possess the ability to work with little supervision in a fast-paced environment, as well as handle many different projects and activities at once • Able to develop and document policy, procedures, training, and functional requirements Education And/or Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field required. • Minimum seven years of experience in the development and support of network servers, data center administration, and information technology security. • Previous experience with Microsoft Windows Server, SCCM, Active Directory, enterprise backup solutions, and server virtualization required. • MCSA and MCITP certifications preferred • Experience using In-Tune and Auto Pilot to manage Windows Desktops is highly desirable • Experience with O365 administration is highly desirable Physical Requirements • Must be able to lift up to 70lbs Travel Requirements • Up to 15% travel Employee Status Regular Exemption Status United States of America (Non-Exempt) Time Type Full time Job Shift Pay Range: $50.00 to $54.00 hourly Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
