Job Title: Network Engineer Department/Division: Information Technology Services Reports To: Program Manager Client: El Paso Electric Summary of Position • Perform support, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring and tuning for the data network at all locations including WAN, LAN, and campus networks • Design and optimize data network topology based on network and system studies, application traffic behavior, and new requirements • Provide evaluation and recommendations for network improvements and optimization including ROI reports, solution pricing, and deployment plans • Perform implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of network components to ensure maximum uptime and optimal refresh intervals • Leverage support providers as required, act as single point of contact, managing service providers on the clients behalf. • Understand and implement security best practices within network design and work with security specialists to minimize vulnerabilities, coordinate security planning with Shared Services Security • Understand applicable compliance requirements and provide effective audit support as related to network design and components • Understand and comply with all applicable SLAs, policies and procedures • Consult with users and evaluate requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analyses, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation of data networks and network support systems • Analyze and resolve technical problems for established networks • Provide network documentation, training, and guidance to computing system clients and programmers • Complete other duties as assigned Additional Requirements • Serve as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies. • Troubleshoot and resolve network production problems • Conduct technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system • Recommend network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-range network projects • Install, configure and maintain network components • Determine plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout • Install, upgrade, and configure network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services • Establish user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed. • Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems • Work with vendors to resolve complex network problems • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference | • Manage monitoring of network systems and links, provide capacity planning and monthly reporting on same. Required Education High school diploma, Degree preferred, or in lieu of education, 5- 7+years experience • Cisco CCNA required; or in lieu of certification, proven mastery of CCNA subject matter • CCNP or CCIE a strong plus • Cisco CCDA certification a plus • Microsoft certifications a plus when in addition to Cisco • ITIL certifications a plus when in addition to Cisco Required Experience The minimum experience for this position is 5-7 years of relevant experience in Enterprise Network Design and Administration. Required Skills • Expert knowledge of IPv4 and TCP/IP – design, operations, and troubleshooting • Cisco router and switching experience, both IOS and CATOS • Routing protocols EIGRP, OSPF • A working knowledge of cabling standards – copper, fiber, SAN, etc sufficient to guide third party cable installs and review quality of work product • Demonstrated skill in application performance troubleshooting • Cisco ASA or Firepower firewall management experience • Network capacity management and forward planning • Demonstrated Enterprise change control experience, configuration management • Client consulting, business case input, project collaboration • Fluent written and verbal communications, English • SSL VPN management experience a plus • Realtime SCADA, DCS, PLC, EMS network design/operations experience a plus • MPLS, BGP, WCCP design and operations experience a plus • Fluent written and verbal communications, Spanish a plus • Electric Utility experience a plus • WPA2 secured 802.11 Wireless deployment experience a plus • Remote communications technology experience a plus (Packet radio, microwave, Ethernet radio, 3g/4G wireless, etc.) • SONET operations experience a plus Physical Requirements Lifting and/or Pulling up to 40lbs.; Sitting, Bending, Standing Equipment Used The equipment used in this position includes but is not limited to; computers, servers, network devices, network sniffers, firewalls, VPN devices, cable testers, IDS devices; and other miscellaneous network appliances. Supervisory Responsibilities None. This role will require mentoring of Service Desk and Desktop support staff to improve Level 0 and Level 1 network problem resolution.
