Job Title: System Administrator – Private Cloud & Backup Recovery Location: Chicago, IL (90% Remote / Occasional Data Center Visits) Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: Director of Cloud Services About Us: We are a Chicago-based Managed Services Provider (MSP) specializing in private cloud infrastructure, data protection, and disaster recovery services. Our mission is to deliver high-availability IT solutions and white-glove support to a diverse client base. We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented System Administrator with a strong background in backup and recovery technologies, cloud infrastructure, and customer support. Position Summary: As a System Administrator, you will play a key role in the daily operations, support, and improvement of our private cloud and backup/recovery services. You’ll be responsible for monitoring systems, handling escalations, implementing solutions, and maintaining data protection infrastructure. This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to our local data center in the Chicago area. Key Responsibilities: • Monitor, maintain, and support private cloud infrastructure and backup/recovery environments. • Administer Veeam, Zerto, and/or other backup and disaster recovery platforms. • Perform regular backups, restores, and disaster recovery testing. • Provision and support virtual machines and storage systems in VMware-based environments. • Respond to and resolve customer support tickets with professionalism and clear communication. • Execute infrastructure upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks. • Maintain documentation for client environments, procedures, and runbooks. • Collaborate with engineering and account management teams to ensure customer satisfaction. • Participate in on-call rotation for critical support needs (as applicable). • Visit local data center as needed for hands-on work (hardware replacements, racking, etc.). Required Skills & Experience: • 3+ years of experience in a System Administrator or Infrastructure Support role. • Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and virtual infrastructure. • Expertise in backup & recovery solutions such as Veeam, Zerto, Commvault, or similar. • Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related core services. • Solid understanding of networking basics (firewalls, VPNs, VLANs). • Experience working in an MSP or customer-facing support environment preferred. • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to clients and non-technical users. • Strong problem-solving and documentation skills. • Based within a 100-mile radius of Lombard, IL and able to access our data center as needed. Preferred Qualifications: • Veeam VMCE or similar backup/recovery certification. • VMware VCP certification. • Experience with SAN/NAS storage systems. • PowerShell or scripting automation experience a plus. • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) is a bonus.
