We are seeking an accomplished Principal Engineer with a deep background in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced AI/ML platforms and infrastructure. In this high-impact role, you will drive innovation, define strategic direction, and deliver robust solutions that empower our organization to meet its AI/ML needs effectively and efficiently. This role will pay between $190,000 per year to 279,000 per year plus bonus. Candidates must reside in New England or Chicago. There is no sponsorship offered at this time for the client. Key Responsibilities: • Platform Development: Lead the creation and refinement of AI/ML infrastructure and platforms, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability. • Innovative Solutions: Challenge existing practices and deliver advanced technical solutions to address complex risk areas. • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide strategic guidance, technical mentorship, and training to engineering teams. Foster an inclusive and innovative environment to attract top talent. • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with senior engineers, information security teams, solutions architects, and product teams to align AI/ML initiatives with organizational objectives. • Security & Privacy: Implement robust data security measures, including encryption and access controls, in collaboration with security teams. • External Engagement: Evaluate external technologies and services to enhance the company’s AI/ML capabilities. • Project Management: Develop and execute project roadmaps, ensuring alignment with defined OKRs and organizational goals. • Continuous Improvement: Drive adoption of modern development tools, CI/CD practices, and automation while upholding strong DORA metrics. Qualifications & Experience: • Experience: 15–20 years of software design and development at scale, with a proven track record in AI/ML solutions. • Programming Skills: Expertise in Java and Python, with the ability to adopt new languages as needed. • AI/ML Expertise: Proficiency in supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning models. Experience with LLMs and tools like SageMaker is a plus. • Big Data Proficiency: Deep knowledge of distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Ray, Spark) and large-scale data platforms. • Cloud Experience: Familiarity with cloud architecture (AWS and Azure preferred) and services like S3, EMR, Kubernetes, and Lambda functions. • DevOps Expertise: Strong background in Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD automation. • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor teams, lead cross-functional collaborations, and manage large-scale projects with financial responsibility. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus. • Industry Knowledge: Experience in payment systems or financial organizations is a bonus.
