JOB SUMMARY The Cook County Board of Review's (CCBOR) Technology Team is dedicated to supporting the taxpayers of Cook County and ensuring the smooth operation of the agency. The CCBOR is looking for a skilled SQL Server Data Engineer & Dashboard Developer. This position will independently perform a full range of responsibilities including theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge in computer systems analysis, programming, and software engineering. The successful candidate will serve as a lead for technical projects including the application of systems analysis techniques and procedures. The position will work closely with the Director of Information Technology and senior leadership. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES Design, develop, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for importing data from multiple sources into SQL Server. Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity during ingestion and integration processes. Automate routine data ingestion and integration tasks using scripts and scheduling tools (e.g., SSIS, Python, or other ETL tools). Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and resolve issues in a timely manner. Write and optimize SQL queries to extract data from SQL Server for reporting purposes. Create stored procedures, views, and functions for efficient data retrieval and manipulation. Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation for database schemas, queries, and processes. Support ad-hoc data requests from various departments. Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent. Ensure dashboards are user-friendly and meet business needs by working closely with stakeholders. Create data models and visualizations that provide actionable insights and key performance indicators (KPIs). Continuously improve and optimize existing dashboards based on user feedback and evolving business needs. The duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 3 years of experience working with SQL Server and database management. Proven experience in developing ETL pipelines and integrating data from various sources. Hands-on experience with report generation and dashboard creation. Proficient in SQL and database performance tuning. Experience with ETL tools like SSIS, Talend, or similar. Strong knowledge of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar). Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus. Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and methodologies. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Requires consistent exercise of discretion and judgment. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP). Knowledge of advanced data modeling techniques. Experience with real-time data streaming and big data technologies is a plus. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Visual acuity to review and edit written communication for long periods of time. Repetitive use of handles to and operate standard office equipment. Regular use of telephone and electronic devices to communicate. Ability to occasionally lift files, voluminous documents, and electronic equipment up to a weight of 35 pounds. Sit for extended periods of time.
