course Microsoft DP-300: Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutionsprovides learners with the knowledge and skills to administer a SQL Server database infrastructure for relational databases cloud, local and hybrid that can synchronize with relational databases Microsoft PaaS. Additionally, this course will be useful to people developing applications that deliver content from SQL relational databases. Who is it for? This course is aimed at professionals who work with data and databases and who want to learn about the administration of the platforms available in Microsoft Azure. It is also valuable for data architects and application developers who want to understand what technologies are available for the data platform and how to work with those technologies. What will you learn? – To plan, implement and configure SQL databases in Azure – Monitor database performance, manage a database and apply performance optimization mechanisms – To ensure secure access to data – Use T-SQL to perform administrative tasks – To automate administrative processes – To plan and configure a High Availability solution Prerequisites: Participants in this course must be familiar with the principles of virtualization, organization and operation of operating systems, infrastructure cloud, networking and storage structures, to know the Transact SQL language and to have knowledge about the organization and operation of relational databases. Some of the necessary knowledge can be obtained after attending the courses: DP-080: Querying Data with Microsoft Transact SQL Course materials are in English. Teaching is done in Romanian. Read the course agenda Module 1: The role of the database administrator Azure To begin, this module explores the role of a database administrator in the world Azure and provides general information, including a review of the different types of databases available in SQL Server. Learners learn why compatibility level is a crucial concept when working with SQL databases in Azure. They are then entered into other database platforms available in Azure, in addition to those based on SQL Server, especially PostgreSQL and MySQL Module 2: Planning and implementing data platform resources This module introduces methods for implementing data platform resources in Azure. Learners learn about options for upgrading and migrating existing SQL databases in Azure. Then learn how to configure resources Azure to host SQL Server on a virtual machine, a Managed Instance, or a database Azure SQL. Participants learn to determine which option best fits specific requirements, calculate resource requirements, and create templates for their deployments. Module 3: Implementing a secure environment In the third module learners explore SQL Server database security practices and Azure SQL. For that I review the options available on SQL Server and the options available in Azure to secure the database Azure SQL. They are then entered into other database platforms available on Azure, in addition to those based on SQL Server, in particular, Azure Database for MariaDB / MySQL / PostgreSQL. Module 4: Monitoring and optimizing operational resources Module 4 introduces learners to resource optimization options for databases built using IaaS or PaaS services. The module also covers server and hardware resource monitoring. For this, participants learn about the tools available for monitoring performance and how to interpret performance indicators for key resources. At the end, they also learn how to solve potential problems using the data provided by Azure SQL Database Intelligent Insights. Module 5: Optimizing Query Performance Query execution plans are some of the most important aspects of database performance. Improving bad plans is one area where a small amount of effort can make huge improvements. Although hardware issues can limit query performance, hardware improvements produce performance improvements of up to 10-20%. More commonly, database administrators encounter queries that are not optimized, have outdated or missing statistics, have missing indexes, or poor database design choices. These problems lead to an overload of resources to return the results of a query. In this case, improving the plans can sometimes yield performance improvements of 100-200% or even more. After upgrading a plan with better indexes or statistics, a query could run two or three times faster. This module helps learners analyze individual query performance and determine where improvements can be made. Module 6: Automation of tasks A common goal for database administrators is to automate as many of their repetitive tasks as possible. This module provides details on how to automate tasks to simplify the work of database administrators – whether it's automating a backup process or building a fully automated alerting system. Methods include scheduling activities for regular maintenance work, as well as managing and configuring notifications for success, failure, or non-completion of activities. Module 7: Planning and implementing an environment where data is available and can be recovered in the event of a disaster Data must be available when the company needs it. That means solutions that host data must be designed with availability and recovery in mind. This module and associated lab covers configuring, testing, and managing a high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) solution in Azure, for both Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) deployments. This module will cover the basic requirements as well as the various options available to achieve HADR (High Availability and Disaster Recovery). We recommend continuing with: Course DP-050: Migrate SQL workloads to Azure Certification programs This course prepares students to take the certification exam Microsoft DP-300 Relational Administering Databases on Microsoft Azure to get certified Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Associate Administrator.
