Job Summary Provides senior level oversight for the definition and deployment of requirements and blueprint preparation, testing,and implementation of the system software and hardware required for technology models of medium-risk andmedium-sized projects. Overview Job Description The Senior Network Engineer engineers, designs, and leads in the maintenance of network switches, operating systems, routers, wireless devices, fiber infrastructure, and other systems supporting the various departments across the City of Dallas. Works closely with business analysts, IT architects, and IT managers to support and maintain networks and associated equipment and provides senior level expertise to solve challenging problems. Essential Functions 1 Designs, selects, tests, assembles, configures and standardizes the technology model for use in determining system hardware and software requirements; monitors needs for upgrades, new firmware, or other related changes; monitors health of the network and responds to alarms as needed. 2 Implements and migrates technology models across the organization; inspects technology integration to ensure effectiveness and operational efficiency; coordinates switch installations and various other configurations and monitors work to ensure quality and technical skill. 3 Performs business modeling and systems engineering; supports, troubleshoots, and configures networks, wireless access points, switches, circuits, and all other systems; assists, supports and communicates with customers and clients regarding business needs, engineering requests, and other critical network components. 4 Provides communication and education to information systems personnel on the technology model; works with vendors ensuring scheduled work is completed and processed to meet customer requests; collaborates with other Network Engineers to ensure work is delegated and completed in a timely and efficient manner; leads team and assists with challenging and complex problems. 5 Assists in defining business requirements to meet technology needs in providing a secured, robust, reliable and efficient infrastructure; monitors network health and provides on-call services when needed. 6 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge And Skills 1 Knowledge of technology trends in order to support current and future enterprise opportunities. 2 Knowledge of business functions, application modeling, prototyping and migration planning. 3 Knowledge of network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools 4 Knowledge of routing, switching, and other network activities. 5 Ability to administer and manage networks and systems with various facets. 6 Ability to analyze, design, install, and run network systems on large scale projects and for large departments. 7 Ability to troubleshoot networks, identify problems, and devise professional and functional solutions. 8 Ability to lead other analysts and provide direction in challenging situations. 9 Ability to make sound decisions and situational analysis. 10 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing 11 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Education Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, mathematics or business field. Experience • Four (4) years of experience analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing network infrastructure and application components. AND • Two (2) years of lead or supervisory responsibilities in an IT setting. (This experience can be concurrent with the required experience.) Equivalencies • Associate degree in any field plus six (6) years of the required experience, including two (2) years of lead or supervisory responsibilities. • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a non-stated field plus six (6) years of the required experience including two (2) years of lead or supervisory responsibilities. • Master's degree (or higher) in computer science, information technology, engineering, mathematics or business field plus two (2) years of the required experience including two (2) years of lead or supervisory responsibilities. Certifications • Must have or obtain CCNA or CCNP certification within probationary period. Other Requirements • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions. • No class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years. • No family violence convictions. • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor or class B misdemeanor charge. Preferences • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2016+ and Linux (RHEL 8.0+) operating systems • Experience with SD Wan implementation, deployment and administration • Project Management Professional (PMP), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other network-related certifications a plus. Salary Range $81,127.23 - $101,409.04 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
