Senior Data Scientist - Delivery (Oil and Gas industry) Houston, TX (Hybrid) About this position: Context Labs is seeking a Data Scientist to support the deployment of Context Labs’ Decarbonization as a Service™ platform, built on our Immutably™ Data Fabric technology. The candidate will perform research and analysis required by customer projects to deploy data-driven business products related to greenhouse gas mitigation within the energy industry. Responsibilities include understanding, integration, testing and analysis of data from a wide variety of data sources, developing and documenting methodology for scalable emissions analytics, building and testing predictive models for the anomaly detection and other use cases. This is a diverse role requiring skills from software development to applied mathematics and statistics. This position reports to the Data Science Architect. In this role you will: • Perform exploratory and diagnostic data analysis to derive business insights. • Implement emissions calculations in robust and reproducible way. • Be responsible for data mining using state-of-the-art methods. • Develop predictive models using classification and regression analysis techniques. • Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis. • Document requirements and resolve conflicts or ambiguities. • Reporting on the results of the analysis in succinct form. • Succeed by exhibiting strong curiosity and problem-solving mindset. • Effectively collaborate and communicate across technical and non-technical teams • Regularly work with colleagues in our Cambridge, MA, and Amsterdam, NL offices. • Work in an agile, cross-functional environment and contribute to a culture of continuous learning • Anything else as may reasonably be required by the company. Experience: Domain Expertise • Industry experience in energy and chemicals, including oil & gas, petrochemicals, renewables, or utilities • Strong understanding of engineering system modeling, thermodynamics, and process simulation Data Science & Analytics • Data wrangling: Proficient in cleaning, merging, and transforming large-scale datasets • Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and feature engineering • Machine Learning (ML): Skilled in building, validating, and tuning predictive models • Familiarity with time series forecasting, classification, and regression techniques • Data visualization: Expertise with tools such as Plotly, Seaborn, Matplotlib, and Dash • Data storytelling: Ability to translate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders Big Data & Distributed Computing • Experience working with large-scale datasets in cloud or distributed computing environments • Hands-on experience with PySpark for distributed data processing • Familiarity with Delta Lake / Delta Tables for scalable, ACID-compliant data management on data lakes Programming & Tools • Strong programming skills in Python, including core scientific and machine learning libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, XGBoost; TensorFlow/PyTorch a plus) • Experience with JavaScript is a plus • Comfortable with SQL, NoSQL, and API integrations for data ingestion • Experience deploying models using lightweight frameworks (e.g., Flask, FastAPI, Streamlit) for prototyping and internal applications • Familiarity with production-grade deployment and MLOps platforms (e.g., Azure ML, MLflow, SageMaker) including model versioning and endpoint management Preferred Experience: • Previous experience performing data analysis in Oil & Gas or climate science applications would be viewed favorably but not required. • 4+ years of experience in a relevant data science role. • Experience with developing and applying data ontologies and knowledge graphs. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering or closely related field (Ph.D. a plus) Why you’ll like it here: • Context Labs is collaborative at its core.
