While each employee shall have a primary responsibility for the job in which that employee has been hired or later promoted, each employee may be expected to perform other jobs from time to time. SUMMARY: The Systems Administrator supports the organization’s IT infrastructure. Responsibilities include maintaining hardware, software, and network systems, responding to alerts and escalated service requests, and contributing to IT improvement projects. This position plays a key role in day-to-day IT operations and is expected to strictly follow change management procedures and utilize the agency’s Freshservice ticketing system for documentation and workflow compliance. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Essential Functions • Respond to incidents and service requests, including issues with accounts, access, devices and applications. • Perform regular system/firmware updates, software patches and other duties as assigned. • Manage on-prem and Microsoft Entra user accounts, permissions, and security/mail groups. • Support print services, endpoint protection software, and IT asset tracking. • Document all work using Freshservice, ensuring proper logging of incidents, service requests, asset updates, and resolution details. • Submit and track change requests through Freshservice in accordance with IT change management policies, including proper documentation and communication. • Use Freshservice for asset and software inventory management, ensuring accuracy of hardware/software records and lifecycle tracking. • Collaborate with other IT staff during system upgrades, scheduled maintenance, or infrastructure changes. • Follow IT policies and procedures, with special attention to security practices, service delivery standards, and user communication. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including the requirements of governmental financial reporting; knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations; ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies, regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire. Preferred Qualifications Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals (MS-900), or Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900). Experience with Azure AD, Exchange Online, or Intune. Hands-on experience with remote desktop utilities and software deployment tools. Understanding of ITIL-based service management practices. Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 15 pounds). Must be able operate a motor vehicle and to perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work will at times require more than 8 hours per day or irregular hours to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment. May require travel to external agencies. Position based in an office and data center environment. Requires occasional lifting of equipment up to 40 lbs. May require bending, crawling, or ladder use to access cabling and hardware. Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be necessary for updates or support. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s) Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and basic Azure Active Directory functions. Knowledge of Windows server OS, Active Directory, and M365 tenant management. Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP, DNS, DHCP), antivirus, and backup systems. Experience using IT ticketing systems—preferably Freshservice—to manage workload and service delivery. Strong troubleshooting skills, ability to document clearly, and commitment to service excellence. Ability to manage time efficiently, follow procedures, and collaborate within a team environment. GENERAL: Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check. SALARY RANGE: Salary offers are based on factors such as the knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant experience of the successful candidate, while taking into account internal equity, budget constraints, and other market factors. This position is in salary grade #11, which has a minimum of $90,979 and a maximum of $129,190. Salary grades are typically adjusted annually to ensure they remain market competitive.
