JOB Under direction of supervisor, the Systems Administrator I is responsible for provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. The candidate must have the ability to think on their feet and employ a best-practices approach to issue resolution. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Perform daily system monitoring, including review of logs, to verify the integrity of hardware, server resources, systems and key processes.Repair and recover from hardware or software failures including coordinating and communicating with management, vendors and impacted departments.Assist with daily backup operations ensuring that all required data is successfully preserved on appropriate media. Participate in periodic tests to validate recoverability of data and conduct formal recoveries as needed. Provide support to satellite offices and remote users including diagnostics, installation, and repair.Participate in the installation and rebuilding of servers, and configure services in accordance with standards and project or operational requirements.Create, administer, and manage user accounts.Take part in the upgrade and configuration of software in support of business applications.Contribute in providing periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing activities. Perform file archival and purging as necessary.Under supervision configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.Apply server patches and upgrades on a regular basis.Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.Contribute to and maintain system standards.Provide Tier 2/3 support as needed.Educate and mentor IT Help Desk support staff as needed.Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.Knowledge/Skills: Experience managing and supporting Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure.Experience in troubleshooting Windows Server. Experience with VMware ESX server.Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange.Knowledge of Storage Area Networks and Network Attached Storage Systems to include NetApp filers.Knowledge of supporting and troubleshooting MS SQL Server. Firm understanding of networking and voice over IP concepts.Effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal organization data.Candidates with certifications (MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, etc.) will be given additional consideration. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Work schedule may include evening, weekend, emergency call and call-back hours. Some travel may be required. Manual and finger dexterity required. Ability to lift 50 pounds. May be subject to exposure to electrical hazards, CRT’s and VDT’s. Sitting, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting required. Conditions of Employment: Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening.
