Job Summary: The Business Intelligence and Data Manager leads the development and implementation of data and analytics strategies that empower United Way to make data-informed decisions and deepen its community impact. This role serves as a key connector across teams, building robust data infrastructure, designing analytical tools, and promoting a culture of data fluency. Working closely with the IT Data Team and organizational stakeholders, the Manager ensures that data systems and insights support strategic goals, improve internal operations, and advance racial equity. The position plays a vital role in transforming complex data into accessible, actionable intelligence that drives program excellence, stakeholder engagement, and organizational growth. Compensation: • The pay range for this job is $95,254-$100,267. • Medical, dental, vision and life insurance • 32 days of PTO (including holidays) • 403(b) retirement savings plan • Subsidized Transit Pass (Orca Card) Essential Duties: • Discovers and uses business intelligence insights to influence leadership and staff in making data driven decisions. • Leverages internal tools (e.g. Power BI, SQL) and knowledge resources to help deliver data-driven findings and recommendations. • Builds an intelligence and insights reporting platform, from data source identification and management to reports creation, that enables relevant stakeholders to look at key metrics, trends and actionable data. • Proactively identifies, develops, manages, and executes analyses to uncover areas of opportunity. • Creates and presents data driven presentations of business recommendations that help drive customer experience and program improvements. • Creates and drives the organization’s BI roadmap by forming and prioritizing long- and short-term initiatives around use and adoption of enterprise and self-service BI and analytics. • Builds relationships and partnerships with staff across the organization to advance the adoption of data driven decision-making at United Way. • Engages closely with the IT Team members and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and build scalable processes and metrics across various data sources and for a variety of business use cases. • Creates advanced find views and dashboards in Mission CRM (Dynamics CRM), utilizes data import/export, and configures Mission CRM to enable Engagement, Community Services, and Finance and Operations teams to fulfill business functions and gain insight from our CRM data. • Elicits and analyzes information from business stakeholders; translates and represents the information to software developers, who work from it to produce solutions. • Trains staff on using reporting tools, such as Power BI and Mission CRM. • Performs other duties as assigned Job Scope: Job encounters frequent new and varied work situations. Engages on a daily basis with donor data that contains confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times. Contacts are usually made on their own initiative and are usually made face-to-face and electronically (via Microsoft Teams) with vendors and others. Job has minimal involvement with volunteers, primarily through presentations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information in a simple, impactful manner to drive business decisions. • Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis, database queries, and reporting using tools such as Power BI and SQL. • Strong relationship-building skills; seeks and incorporates input from others to reach effective and inclusive solutions. • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across work teams and to work effectively with a diverse internal and external customer base. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including training and presentation abilities tailored to technical and non-technical audiences. • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify root causes of data and systems issues. • Demonstrated ability to perform business systems analysis and translate business needs into technical solutions. • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving organizational needs. • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the following Microsoft applications: Dynamics 365 CRM, Power BI, SQL Server Management Studio / Azure SQL, Visio, and O365 tools such as Outlook, Teams, XLS and PowerPoint. • Knowledge of data governance best practices and ability to handle sensitive data with confidentiality, security, and ethical consideration. • Ability to apply a racial and social equity lens to data practices, ensuring inclusive and contextualized insights that inform more equitable outcomes. • Experience leading or supporting change initiatives related to technology, process improvement, or data culture. • Skill in transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights through visualizations and narratives that drive engagement and decision-making. • Ability to align BI strategies with organizational goals and community impact, while anticipating future data and reporting needs. • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations without direct authority. • Commitment to innovation and ongoing improvement of systems, tools, and workflows. • Ability to build trust, navigate sensitive discussions, and foster collaboration across diverse teams with empathy and tact. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related discipline. At least five years’ experience in analytics, business intelligence, or data engineering, data warehousing tools and technology. Advanced knowledge and experience with SQL, database design, and query optimization. Experience analyzing and mining databases in a business environment with large-scale and complex data sets. MS Dynamics 365, Power BI and Enterprise Service Bus / Integration software experience preferable. Job Conditions: Performs extensive computer work.
