We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Azure Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in accelerating the adoption of scientific cloud computing and best practices within our organization. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and security of cloud-based systems, auditing existing configurations, and developing optimal solutions across networking, security, infrastructure-as-code, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and high-performance computing. This is a mission-critical role that demands a combination of technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Data Science and Public Health Informatics. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with engineering teams to develop, implement, optimize, and maintain cloud-based solutions that meet organizational needs. Oversee the deployment and troubleshooting of cloud infrastructure, educate teams on cloud initiatives, and ensure the security of the cloud environment. Ensure the efficient operation of data storage and processing systems, adhering to security policies and best practices in cloud security. Provide support for cloud services (data warehouses, data pipelines, etc.), including patching, maintenance, and configuration management. Manage cloud-based infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, ensuring smooth integration and automation across applications. Implement and maintain a CICD (DevSecOps) pipeline for systems, services, and infrastructure, focusing on automation and security. Monitor system health, applying proactive measures for patching, maintenance, and real-time issue remediation. Troubleshoot identity management and authentication issues, ensuring secure and smooth operations. Work on a variety of complex problems, collaborating with project teams to find solutions and implement improvements. Develop scripts and automate operational tasks in a cloud environment using your programming and scripting skills. Ensure systems uptime and performance, aligning with contractual requirements and performance expectations. Support day-to-day operational activities, including incident management, change management, and problem resolution. Assist technical leads in developing operational plans, documentation, and monitoring solutions. Follow industry best practices for cloud configurations, architecture, and security. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus). At least 6 years of experience in Azure cloud engineering, architecture, or DevSecOps. Strong proficiency with version control systems such as Git. Experience working in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and other containerization technologies. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including PowerShell/CLI. In-depth knowledge of CI/CD processes, including GitHub Actions and YAML. Experience in setting up self-hosted runners in GitHub Actions. Expertise in Azure Identity and Access Management, Governance, and Security best practices. Solid experience with Azure Batch compute and related services. Proficiency in Python or R for scripting and automation tasks; familiarity with data manipulation libraries is a plus. Experience with designing and managing data pipelines. Desired Qualifications: Experience working with the CDC or similar public health organizations. 6+ years of experience with Bash and Unix scripting. 6+ years of experience working with Linux distributions, particularly Ubuntu. Familiarity with DAG tools such as Airflow or Nextflow is a plus. Knowledge of cloud security best practices and data governance frameworks. Work Environment: This position supports remote work within the Eastern Time Zone to align with the needs of our clients. The standard work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET, with occasional adjustments as needed. Occasional travel for training and project meetings, estimated at less than 25% per year.
